I think they're both overrated.

Personally, I don't think either one is overrated.

There both good solid pitchers. Is Hudson going to have a better year? Probably. Is Zito going to have a good year? Absolutely.

i think zito's slightly on the decline, so i'm inclined to say that it will be hudson.

i'd want mulder over either of them though.

How can a 25 year old be on the decline? Zito is fine, if anything he's undervalued this year because of his record last year, due largely in part to lack of run support and blown saves. He still managed a 3.30 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

The year before his Cy Young award season he put up a higher ERA and a WHIP than he did last year, but still won more and lost fewer games. Overall he has a career 3.12 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, not too shabby.

Hudson, who is 3 years older than Zito, has comparable career numbers, and was better last year. But IMO Zito's K's give him the fantasy edge.

Last year Hudson had a season that was even better than Zito's 2002 Cy Young contending season.

Hudson in 2003 -
2.70 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 162 Ks, 240 IP

Zito in 2002 -
2.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 182 Ks, 229 IP

Hudson's numbers are getting better every year while Zito's numbers last season left a lot to be desired.

Zito in 02 had a ERA+ OF 169
Hudson in 03 had a ERA+ of 158

Last years k/9

Hudson 6.1
Zito 5.7

The year before in 02, Hudson was at 5.7. So in the last 2 years, hudson has a 5.7 and 6.1 k rate, and Zito is a bum with his 1st somewhat low k rate (5.7)?

Pretty close, flip a coin. I'm probably still partial to Zito.

Hudson

I think he's just more overpowering. Plus, if you add the 4 wins blown by Foulke last year and you have a Cy young contender.
It's like I've died and gone to heaven......but then they realized that it wasn't my time, so they sent me to a brewery.

Hudson had his best year last year, so I dont expect him to top his numbers. However, Zito's declining K's and the fact that he's pitched so many innings in the past few years worries me a little. Alot of people have forecasted a continued to delcine for him, so it's becoming a tough choice to choose between the two.

I read a few weeks ago that Zito is trying a new delivery. Anyone know anything about how that's going?

I think he's just pitching out of a different arm slot. Could end up adding more velocity to his pitches, but I don't see it making much difference.
