Cellar dweller needs help w/ keepers and trade WHIR

Postby 84Razor » Sat Feb 12, 2011 1:38 pm

We can have 4 keepers. My team has been the absolute worst since the league's start. I own the record for worst record in a year at 2-15. I own the record for worst power ranking (CBS Sportsline) for an overall year at 3. Also, during one stretch I lost 22 straight games. Again, a league record. My best overall year was last year when I went 13-14. To give myself some credit, I was a huge baseball fan back in the late 80's - early to mid 90's. I became less of a fan once the steroid talk started and just recently some friends talked me into joining their league. So I am still catching up on players/teams and stats.

Now, I could use some help. The good news is obviously I don't have many good players so my keepers are such;

Dustin Pedroia
Buster Posey
Felix Hernandez
Clayton Kerhshaw

I have the #5 pick overall this year out of a 12 man league, snake draft format.

Now, a guy wants to trade me Josh Hamilton for my 2nd round pick. (#22 overall) I am thinking of doing that and dropping Pedroia. I might be able to get him back and I am not sure of him after the injury he suffered.

On another note, another guy wants to trade me Robinson Cano for Felix Hernandez straight up. Not sure what to think about that trade.

Incase anyone is interested, this is my overall roster;

C - Buster Posey, Victor Martinez
1B - Justin Morneau
2B - Dustin Pedroia
3B - Chone Figgins, Mark Reynolds
SS - Alexei Ramirez
OF - Angel Pagan, Johnny Damon, and Shin-Coo Shoo
Pitching - Felix Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw, Jered Weaver, Johnathan Papelbon, Rafeal Soriano, Brett Anderson

how many teams is this league as, you dont look to have a cellar dweller team.
the hamilton deal plays a big part in league size and could be a good trade or a wash, and Pedroia would be my drop as well.

I like the King Felix for Can trade better though as Cano is clearly more valuable, and ddint see Seattle do too much to make them better.

help with mine?

It is a 12 man league. Thank you for the feed back!

I would actually make both deals as I think it will automatically give you a better starting point going into the draft with Hamilton, Cano, Posey and Kershaw. And you should be able to get a really nice piece with the 5th pick.

I like both prospective deals for you. Hammy is a stud, and assuming he stays healthy, he should be worth more than whoever you'd pick at #22 in the draft. Cano is arguably the best fantasy 2B and should have another monster year in the middle of the Yankees lineup.

The cellar dweller talk is gone, you've got 4 top 50 guys now and have probably caught up fantasy-wise.You could use a big rbi bat that Hamilton would bring, but I wouldn't trade away your 2nd round pick to do it. Basically you'd be starting with your 5 vs everyone else's 6 and once again you are behind the league again. It might be different if your 4th player wasn't near top 50 material, but he isn't and I wouldn't make that swap for sure. If you start a middle infielder the Felix-Cano deal is interesting, that would give you some pop in the middle with the power positions yet to fill
The other thing I'd consider is keeping Choo ahead of Kershaw. Based solely on draft position, Choo is going about a round or at least earlier in the round than Kershaw. SP is so deep again this year; Kershaw is everyones favorite youngster on the rise but you're going to have to send at least 1 keeper worthy player back into the pool.I'd like:
Posey
Pedr
Felix
Choo
or
Posey
Pedr
Choo
Felix or Cano
as your 2 best starting points. Last time I looked, Choo's ADP was around 30; I just think you are better to go in with at least 3 bats or 4 if you do the Cano deal. Trading for Cano then keeping Kershaw over Choo would be fine too, some tough calls but I wouldn't trade away your 2nd rounder for sure. good luck

I think I agree that I wouldn't trade the pick for Hamilton and I like the Cano for Felix trade.

Posey
Pedroia
Choo
Felix of Cano
