Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray
What about the possible up side of McCutchen? Ellsbury is what he is (unless he bats 9th or gets hurt again), McCutchen can easily get better and become a 20/40 guy.
Allthe publications and websites seem to have Ellsbury higher but I can't figure out why. Pgh's lineup is bad but has spray hitters at the top so McCutchen will score runs. He is also 3 yrs younger and more durable. I'd go McCutchen in a heartbeat.
Ellsbury isn't a bad player. If he is healthy (big if) and if he hits in the 1 or 9 spot (probably), you will get a near league leader in Runs and SB with a decent AVG. That said, I would rather have McCutchen. He has more long term upside and less injury concerns. He may not be better than a healthy Ellsbury this season, but he will overtake him at some point. Plus, it is always a lot easier to draft or trade for a decent SB guy.
