Typical 5x5 H2H league, I have 2 UTIL spots open, 2 RP, and 3 SP
Would be choosing from IF = Mike Napoli, Brian Roberts, Elvis Andrus, Alexei ramirez, Nishioka, Reynolds, Beltre OF = BJ Upton, Rajai Davis, Granderson, Abreu, Chris Young SP = Colby Lewis, Dempster, Shields, Nolasco, CJ Wilson RP = Broxton, F. Rodriguez, Thornton, nathan, Chris Perez
My keepers were
Mccann Gonzo Cano Bautista Reyes J. Upton Crawford Pagan Haren J. Johnson
I would go with either Beltre, Ramirez or Young. I think they're the best available, and you can fill out the rest of your roster (and pitching) later.
If you really want to drive yourself crazy you could take Upton. I'm personally through with him unless he falls very late in a draft.
"The game has a cleanness. If you do a good job, the numbers say so. You don't have to ask anyone or play politics. You don't have to wait for the reviews." - Sandy Koufax
Beltre would be the obvious pick if you are a fan of BPA (then maybe you could trade someone for a pitcher later??..).
If you want to draft someone specifically on need it definitely would be pitching... Likely Dempy, or Nolasco but I am not a real fan of either to be honest.
Personally I would take Beltre just because he is the only name that really stands out on the list. Best value.
I would certainly go with a hitter. I cannot imagine any of those hitters being worth a first round pick. (even realizing that its more like a tenth round pick)
However - I couldn't really see picking beltre number one. with the exception of his huge contract years, he's never been even as good as michael young.
I like chris young
If you feel you must go with a pitcher - I would go with a closer (between KRod and Nathan) I just hate to think of taking such a big chance on a first round pick. Both come with big question marks>> maybe KRod is more safe of the two.
I agree with beltre and Young. I also don't get why all the love every yeat from upton. He offers steals only. You could draft somebody better in that spot and take a player like Pierre or Gardner to get more steals, a better average and score more runs.
Even with Bautista manning the hot corner, I'd still take the best player available in Beltre. You can never have too many good hitters, and if you aren't able to find playing time for everyone, you'll have a good trade chip.
