Do I keep Pedro Alvarez who I have been targeting as a keeper all along or should I trade for Billy Butler?

The logic behind this is that Butler becomes the 12th ranked available player in our draft which means he will never be a keeper and I am just too hung up on how great of a hitter he is with a ceiling that could make him a .300/30/100 guy. I know that he is at a deep position, but our Dynasty League has a shallow draft each year.

Alvarez on the other hand is a .260-.275 hitter with 40 homer potential at a shallow position which I love.

Here is my team: Wright, Pedroia, McCutchen, J Upton, King Felix, Holliday, Alvarez, Kinsler.

I have the 5th overall and the 12th overall and 16th overall with no 3rd or 5th rounder.

I am a fan of Alvarez but right now Butler is more help to you. Pedro is not hitting 40 HRS soon though he may someday. He will strike out over 150 times and that will keep him from producing in many categories.

I'd take Butler. You don't have a 1B and i am not completely sold on Alvarez yet. I think he is still a couple years away.

Butler is ranked 56 in Yahoo and Alvarez 84. I like Butler but have the 5th pick which will land me Teixeira.

Any logic behind Alvarez or just a gut feeling over Butler? Butler is a .300 hitter which is huge.

So, if I understand it correctly...

you can have either A) Wright at 3rd and Tex at first (with Alverez where?) , or B) Butler at first and Wright at third (and an extra pick b/c you don't have a need for Tex?)

If you have a DH slot, or UTIL, then I like the 3 of Wright, Tex and Alverez over Butler, Wright and ???

I would go with Alvarez. I like Butler a lot too, but I'm not sure he's got the power to ever become an elite 1B. He's Mike Sweeney redux. Alvarez, in my opinion, has a higher ceiling at a scarcer position. May not be this year that he outproduces Butler, but it's a keeper league, so you've got some time. (Though I think you should only be considering the next two, three years in a keeper without minor leagues.)

I think I like the potential of Alvarez better than Butler for a Dynasty league, plus you can grab Tex as you said so you should be set. If k's don't hurt you then I think it is definitely Alvarez
