I am in 12-team 5x5 Roto league with a $260 cap. We start 11 hitters and 9 pitchers. We're in a league with salary increasing $1 the first year kept and doubling after that.
I have HanRam at $32 and this'll be the last year I keep him as he'll be $64 in 2012. I got this offer today:
HanRam
For
Brian McCann ($22), Gordon Beckham ($4), and Starlin Castro ($3).
I was thinking of keeping Napoli at C, but McCann is an upgrade though he has shown signs of decline. I am also keeping Martin Prado an Kelly Johnson.
Would you take this deal?
Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray
I would stay put and enjoy Hanley for 1 more year.
It's not a bad deal, but I get a sense that you value McCann greatly in this deal. I just don't see McCann as an incredibly huge upgrade over Napoli. Yes, he is consistent. Yes, I'm a Braves fan and I love McCann. Yes, he's a top-tier option in a shallow position.
But I have upgraded Napoli this season. He's one of my "shallow sleepers," not that everyone doesn't know about him...I just am one of the few who think he will either duplicate or even increase his production this season.
I know you need to dump those high-priced players when you can, but I think I would just hold pat.
I have salary cap-type questions on this board if you feel like giving me a hand. I'm torn between a couple reasonably-priced hitters vs. reasonably-priced pitchers. I post under remotethumb.
I think I would make the deal. Castro is still young and you can have him for $4 next year and then $8, $16. That could be a major steal in the next few years if he is everything people are saying he's suppose to be. Getting McCann for one or two years won't hurt ya.
I'd keep Hanley for another year. $32 is a nice price for arguably a top 3 hitter. Beckham and Castro could be potential bargains, but you're not quite sure what you're going to get out of either, especially Beckham (rebound is possible, a breakout might be another story). Castro's upside is a bit limited, as he's been known to be an inefficient basestealer.
I'd have to say a no on this one also. Yes the guys is asking for basically 1 year of HanRam unless he goes crazy and keeps him in 2012, but we are still talking a top 5 (arguably top 2 player) in Hanley. You should be able to get more than that for him IMO.
