Need Help (Again) if you know about prospects... WHIR-Again

Postby DaveClay12 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:42 pm

So...

In a 14-team, up-to-10-keeper league where minors-eligible players don't count towards the limit, My top-10 are:

Braun
V-Mart
A-Gon
Zimmerman
Reyes
Prado
Josh Johnson
Wainwright
Latos
and Jered Weaver...

After Weaver comes Heath Bell and Jhoulys Chacin, both of whom I'd be happy to keep.

After my championship season last year, my minors are a touch depleted... I have Brett Lawrie (2B-Tor), Nick Franklin (SS-Sea), Peter Bourjos (OF-Ana), Jeanmar Gomez (SP-Cle) and Brandon Allen (1B-Ari)...

I could trade Weaver for Wil Myers (C-KC) and Jason Kipnis (2B-Cle)

Do I do it? Basically, in terms of how it would affect my team for next year and beyond, would I rather have

Weaver, Allen and Gomez

or

Bell/Chacin, Myers and Kipnis

I am a believer in position scarcity, and with Prado moving to the OF, Kipnis could be a big plus down the line. So could Lawrie, but he's farther away from the bigs, and hasn't shown as much yet. And Myers, if he stays at C...

Thoughts?

Leave a link, and I'd be happy to help you out.

Thanks,

Dave

I think that you couldn't pick a better time to move Jered Weaver. 2010 was a career year for him - one he's not likely to match, much less exceed.

I really like both Myers and Kipnis and that would probably be a solid return. I would also recommend keeping Bell.

I have mentioned before that I am not a fan of trading MLB talent for minor leaguers very often. I personally would keep Weaver here. In a 14 team league SP isn't going to be that deep and going into the draft with 4 quality starters is a good move. You can find RP in the draft and Myers or Kipnis are no guarantees. I would worry about the minor league system later.

Agree with MaudDip on this....I'm in a similar keeper league - however we have 17 keepers and after amateur draft this year 18 man farm team. But back to your question, I would hold onto Weaver for now, the 4/5 guys you mentioned on your farm are quality prospects. I would hold off until after the season starts and see how your doing then, if not so well then trade a couple of your older keepers to contenders for top prospects then but not right now.
