Buchholz or Gallardo?

Postby soty » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:21 pm

I am thinking of trying to package one of the 2 along with a bat for a keeper upgrade. I just don't see a way I can keep both SPs so which one would you rather have in a keeper for this year and the future? We count W, K, ERA and WHIP for SPs.

We keep 8 and as of right now my for sure keepers are (C)Santana, (1B)Cabrera, (2B)Pedroia, (3B)Longoria, (SS)HRamirez and (SP)Buchholz/Gallardo.

Leave a link I will help you.

OK Gallardo it is but I must admit I am surprised though because other than K's Buchholz was better in every other category last year.

Buchholz was also mighty lucky last year. He's much closer to posting a 3.60+ ERA than in the low 3's, let alone in the mid-2's. One would expect that ERA/WHIP to regress against AL East hitting more times than not.

Gallardo's walk rate decreased a bit and his K rate is much more stable than that of Buchholz.

I think the approach to take in your situation is to make either pitcher available as part of the two-for-one and see what gets you a better return. Some people might prefer Bucholz, others Gallardo... but the fact is either pitcher could easily have a better year than the other. Trade whichever gets you a better return.
Please help with mine...
