LIMA strategy- 2011

Postby OldEnglishZ » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:07 pm

I am thinking about using a LIMA strategy for starting pitcher for my dynasty draft this year... has anyone used it? I made a spreadsheet identifying guys that qualify for AL-only and most of them are top tier pitchers, a few guys have slipped through the crack:

Stats in order : BB/K , K/9, HR/9

Max Scherzer 2.63/ 8.46/ 0.92
F. Liriano 3.47/ 9.44/ 0.42
Colby Lewis 3.02/ 8.78/ 0.94
John Danks 2.31/ 6.85/ 0.76
Ricky Romero 2.12/ 7.46/ 0.64
Gavin Floyd 2.60/ 7.25/ 0.67
Zack Greinke 3.29/ 7.40/ 0.74
Brett Cecil 2.17/ 6.10/ 0.94
Brian Matusz 2.27/ 7.33/ 0.98
John Lackey 2.17/ 6.53/ 0.75
Brandon Morrow 2.70/ 10.9/ 0.68
Luke Hochevar 2.05/ 6.64/ 0.79

Let me know what you guys think

I appreciate all the advanced methods coming into fantasy baseball.

My only advice about pitching is to not value it over hitting. But I think your question is about "who slipped throught the crack," or sleepers. I think all the guys you listed are on most people's radar. i see 2 or 3 who had "bad luck" last year.

I look at 1 simple thing, strikeouts. Then I go from there.

Of course, I would be interested to know your scoring system.

I plan on spending 75/25 pitching/hitting. I just compiled this list to find the guys who may have had a down year. There are all on peoples radar, but I'm in an auction so I feel these guys might come at a discont to their true value.

Yes, I agree with your assessment. I think your numbers may help confirm the belief that there is a lot of quality pitching out there. In my league, I am considering throwing back Ubaldo Jimenez and Tommy Hanson to conserve my bats as keepers (Votto, Tulowitzki, Adam Dunn, Rickie Weeks would be my 4 keepers) It seems crazy until I see lists like yours. In a mixed league, there is a lot of depth at pitching.

Don't get me wrong, last year I drew the 12th spot in the draft, drafting at the turnaround. I took a bat first and Lincecum at 13, but then, when everyone else just kept taking bats, I was faced with all the top pitchers remaining at pick 36 and 37. So I decided just to go with all pitching. I came in second in that league.

But I didn't know it was going to be the year of the pitcher! ha ha :-]

There are so many strategies to use too. Like u said, You went early pitching and still finished towardsthe top. This year, piching is deep. You don have to wait even for a pitcher just gettingood quality starters in the middle rounds like guys on this list would be huge to keep your keepers
