Dynasty redraft first pick

Postby mekman20 » Mon Feb 07, 2011 2:14 pm

We contracted two teams in our 20 team dynasty. Those teams' players went into the redraft. I'm fairly certain who will go 1-3, and I have the #4 pick. I'm considering three guys: Matt Wieters, Matt Cain, or Dan Haren. My team could definitely use the starting pitching. I basically have Oswalt and Shields, along with Zambrano, Leake, Zito, Maholm, Lannan -- not exactly the names you're looking for. My hitting is pretty solid overall, but my catcher really sucks (ie: really I don't have one -- it's Navarro), and I'm still probably higher on Wieters than most. What do you think? I'll help in return

I still think Wieters will become a top C, but I think you will be better suited to go after Cain. Cain has shown that he can produce and all Wieters is, is projection. Plus Cain is still fairly young.

The debate for me would be Cain vs. Wieters. I'm still pretty high on Wieters as well, but I don't have to give up the opportunity to acquire a Cain-type player to hold onto him. Given the choice, I would rather have a rotation anchor than a catcher would has shown no signs of being a superstar.

Take the player that is more likely to help you win now. If you are concerned about catching, take a stab at one of the many decent catching prospects if they are available (Myers, Gary Sanchez, Mesoraco, Arencibia, d'Arnaud, Romine, etc.)

I would take Haren over Cain and Wieters, personally. Cain somehow defies the odds of regressing, but Haren's peripherals are superior. Nevermind the bad second halves (he bucked the trend last September, in fact) and expect a bit of an improvement (3.60 ERA reasonably).

I would take Cain and then look to add a high ceiling catching prospect at the draft like Arencibia.
Please help with mine...

Wow, some bad teams were contracted there if those are the guys competing for the 4th best player between them...

I'd go Cain, at worst hes a solid addition...at best he can become your ace. Haren would be my second choice.
