Hello all!
My friends and I have all been huge baseball fans so last year we decided to start a league. It was awesome and everyone had a lot of fun with it. We did 5x5 with all of the standard categories and being the commishner, I wanted to add something to make it more fun this year. What category has everyone added to make it 6x6 or 7x7 that kept it fair but made it more interesting. Any other rules that people put in place that have been fun??
Thanks!!

If you get too many categories, you are just duplicating them. I have always thought 5 X 5 is best.

Hitting categories will be:
* Batting Average
* Home Runs
* Runs Batted In
* Runs
* Stolen Bases
* On-Base Percentage
* Strike-Outs
Pitching categories will be:
* Wins

* Saves
* Quality Starts
* Holds

My league uses OBP and QS as 6th categories and everybody likes it.

I personally love the 5x5 format best, but if I were to add a pitching stat it would be holds. On-base percentage would be OK on the hitting side. I wouldn't go more than 6x6, though, take expansion one step at a time.

I would just add BB for hitters and Holds for pitchers. I would only add a category if it adds something (whether a tool/skill or a pool of players) that isn't already represented in standard 5x5. I wouldn't add categories just for the sake of adding categories.

Thanks everyone for your help. My team is expanding from 10 teams to 12 teams. I will be adding OBP and QS. I think holds would be difficult.
1. If I go with holds what is the strategy? How many non-closing releavers do you put on your roster?
2. Also, since I have 12 teams should I add more roster spots? We just did the default Yahoo settings last year.
Thanks!!

i like holds bc it opens up a whole lot of players that normally wouldnt be used...middle relievers. its a lot of fun chasing holds all season...the reason i liek it. but do be warned it decreases the value of closers.....the reason i dont like it
having 4 RP spots works good for me. let people decide how they want to fill that 4 out. the championship teams are the ones that can get 2 good closers and holders....but be warned most teams will go either closer strong or holder strong and just punt the other
