H2H 5x5 mixed, standard scoring, we keep 4 players (plus any minor leaguers we activate, we maintain a 3-player minor league "farm") Start each position plus DH, start 5 SPs and 2 RPs each week.
(kinda tight) Salary cap of $280, most of my keeper questions are about VALUE. A player's salary is last year's price + this year's price divided by 2. The prices listed below is what these players will cost me this season.
These I figure are my obvious potential keepers: 1B Votto ($28) 1B Dunn ($21) 1B Tex ($34) 2B R. Weeks ($17) SS Tulowitzki ($28) OF C. Rasmus ($13) OF M. Bourn ($15) SP U. Jimenez($23) SP T. Hanson ($20)
These guys have what appears to have very good value for their cost: SP Anibal Sanchez ($5) SP Jaime Garcia ($9) RP Drew Storen ($7)
I get to bring Ike Davis (1B) up off my farm and can keep him as an extra keeper for $8, or I can "throw him back" and save the $8. This brings me to my main question...
1. I'm keeping Votto ($28) at 1B. That leaves 1 DH spot for either Tex ($34), Adam Dunn ($21), or Ike Davis ($8). I can put Ike Davis on my bench if you think I should keep Dunn or Tex. My gut says to keep Adam Dunn for $21 as my DH, but what do I do with Ike Davis? Store him on my bench for $8? Throw Ike back into the pool? Or throw back Dunn and Tex and slot Ike into the DH spot? I like Ike Davis' value for $8. I just don't know if I like him as my DH, even at $8. If I don't keep Dunn or Tex, I guess my next 2 best keeper options are Tommy Hanson and Ubaldo Jimenez (I'm already keeping Votto and Tulo) which brings me to #2....
2. I like U. Jimenez($23) and Tommy Hanson ($20) as keepers; on my last post you guys agreed, recommending I keep Votto, Tulo, Jiminez and Hanson as my 4....but look at the price tag on Sanchez ($5), Garcia ($9) and even RP Storen ($7) (I never keep RPs, but maybe you do). Considering I am already gambling on an unpredictable position (SP), are Hanson and Jiminez worth $14 and $11 more than Jaime Garcia?
3. Just to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing, Colby Rasmus at $13 is tempting. So I ask, is Colby Rasmus at $13 > Jimenez($23) or Hanson ($20)?
This should be the last time I ask you guys. I'll start answering soon, just a few more hours of research (so I won't suggest guys like Pettitte haha)

1B Votto ($28) would be hard to get him under $40 in auction 1B Dunn ($21) if it's a OBP league, he is decent if not great priced 1B Tex ($34) overatted IMO and too highlyy priced 2B R. Weeks ($17) great price here SS Tulowitzki ($28) elite player at a slightly discounted price (could go as high as $40 in some leagues) OF C. Rasmus ($13) I like him at this price OF M. Bourn ($15) all he gives is mediocre average and steals, think he is a -$10 player SP U. Jimenez($23) hate paying over $20 for pitchers, especially Colorado ones SP T. Hanson ($20) same as Ubaldo
These guys have what appears to have very good value for their cost: SP Anibal Sanchez ($5) SP Jaime Garcia ($9) All Three could be redrafted at same cost IMO RP Drew Storen ($7)
Scoring is standard 5 x 5 - h2h weekly - start 1 player each pos. + DH - start 5 SPs 2 RPs
middle relievers may as well be non-existent in the draft (which is unfortunate but I get voted down for 6 x 6 every year) that is why, even though I hate keeping closers or even drafting them too high, in standard 5 x 5 they do represent 20% of the pitching category each week.
Guys like Adam Dunn are dropped in value because of no OPS. First-half "fish" are dropped in value because of H2H (see Teixeira)
Davis has alot more value in a 16 team league than he would a 10 or 12; you really need to put how many positions your league uses also.Says 1 at each position but most leagues use corners and middles tho it sounds like this 1 doesn't. You can pay alot for stars in a smaller league as the FA pool contains so many more useable players; in larger leagues you have to be more careful with your dollars as you have to spread out your money throughout the roster.Davis has almost no value in smaller leagues that don't use a corner, but has a great deal in larger that do. So before commenting on who is a value you really gotta name the particulars
Okay, you guys are right, I just feel like me always posting my roster & settings make people skip over my posts....here's my rules and roster:
12 team mixed-23 man roster (plus 3 minor leaguers; you don't have to activate a minor leaguer until he gets 100 AB (hitters) or 25 innings pitched (Pitchers)-H2H Weekly - 5X5 - start 1 ea. position + DH - start 5 SP and 2 RP -$280 cap - keep 4 players, activated minor leaguers DO NOT count as 1 of the 4 keepers -
Player salaries from Sporting News Fantasy Guide; last year's salary + this year's listed salary divided by 2
**It sounds complicated but it's not, and so it's my favorite scoring system. I recommend it to everyone. Standard 5 x 5, keep 4 (by dividing this year's salary by last year's, you are financially rewarded for finding & keeping a player early. (Last year Tulowitzki was listed in Sporting News at $22. This year Sporting News has him $34. So I get him for $28 ($22 + $34=$56/2=$28) There are no roster limitations so I usually draft 1 at each position (including my DH), then get a guy like Barmes or Wiggington (this year he'll be a little more $$$ ha ha) and just load up on $1-$2 pitchers. In other words, I'm not afraid to spend money on my starters. My roster (I have to bring Ike Davis up, I get him for $8 -last year $1, this year $14, so 1 + 14 =15/2=7.5, round up to $8) Sorry for the long-windedness but this is my 1 and only question for the cafe. I will answer many in return. (I will ask questions about prospects & stuff later, but this is my 1 and only "keeper" concern.
