Ace SP Dilemma - who to keep who to deal WHIR

Postby Guzman24 » Sat Feb 05, 2011 3:40 pm

I only have room to keep 2 SP out of my 8 keepers. The other 2 I'm going to trade in an attempt to improve my keepers.

So.....going forward. How do you rank:

Price
Lirano
Verlander
JJohnson

QS instead of W's H2H 5x5 12 Team 8 Keepers

I like Verlander best. He seems to be coming into that prime age where he could really turn it up.

I also like JJ even though there are major injury concerns. ESPN says that they are injuries to be concerned about.

Price was a number 1 pick, but people dont seem to like him all that much in fantasy and see a regress coming. I dont, I see a beast of a LHP who dials it up and has some sick stuff to keep guys off balance. Age is on your side here too!

Verlander/Price

I also like Price and Verlander. If you look behind Prices numbers last season, it looks like he should take a step back but he is also still growing. I expect his numbers to be pretty similar to last season. I also don't know if I would want to gamble with JJ.

Pitchers are always tricky to predict because usually when they have an injury it's for a long period of time. That said I like to have pitchers that have a better track record with injuries. In your case, that would be Verlander and Price. Johnson and Liriano will pitch very well providing they are healthy, but that's a big risk!

I always thought if you have 2 guys you really like but only get to keep 1 and have to trade 1, just trade the 1 you get the most value for. Instead of deciding "I"m keeping Price over JJ", I'll offer JJ in trades; put both out there and keep the other 1.

Liriano
Verlander
Price
JJ

I really like Liriano this year. Its between Price and Verlander. I like Price better from a talent perspective, but Verlander pitches in a friendlier park and gets to beat up on Cleveland and KC within his own division. Price has no doormats, even Balt is much improved offensively this year.
