12 team std 5x5 roto keeper league

Postby Mateo de Lorenzo » Thu Feb 03, 2011 5:12 pm

I trade Ubaldo Jimenez (would cost me my 15th round draft pick this year, FA after season)
for
Daniel Hudson (would cost me a 20th round draft pick this year, and -3 each subsequent year; so 20, 17, 14, etc. if I choose to keep him more then this year.) and Ben Zobrist (would cost me a 17th round pick this year, then he is a FA)

So, in summary the trade is Ubaldo (15th round) for Daniel Hudson (20th) and Ben Zobrist (17th). Good deal for me to make?

I think Ubaldo is a stud, but likely to come down a little bit from last year. I think Hudson is probably an ace in the making and I think Zobrist's injury hurt his numbers last year. I expect him to come back strong in 2011.

Thoughts?

I would rather have Ubaldo. Hudson looked really good last year but he is a fly ball pitcher in a hitters park. Not sure I would want to invest in him until I give him some more time.

Hmmm... Not to lower Ubaldo's accomplishments too much, but, Coors is a monster of a hitters ballpark. While he did well there last year, I fear it may just be an anomaly. That, combined with the fact that the Rockies got busted altering game balls late in the season makes me wonder if he will replicate 2010.

Hudson improved when he went to AZ. US Cellular Field is the fourth most hitter friendly park with a park factor of 1.135 and Chase is ninth with a park factor of 1.049. For those unfamiliar with the measurement, anything above 1 favors the batter. the higher the more favorable. The Park Factor for HR only (seems how you mention he is a fly ball pitcher) he went from CHW as the most HR friendly ball park with a PFhr of 1.545 to Chase which is 12th overall in PFhr at 1.063.

I'd go with Ubaldo as well. The Coors effect doesn't impact him too greatly when he tends to show groundball tendencies. Also, he's a more polished product than Hudson at the moment.
