So the suggestion here (ken?) is that if m16 is lynched and is mafia, steeler should be investigated to confirm their connection. If he winds up not being mafia, look elsewhere?

We don't want the investigator outing himself on day 2 if steeler is investigated and found to be dirty, unless the doctor is able to protect him. (do we?) I think we're assuming that they are connected for the way steeler took a vote off when the pile on started.

No we absolutely do not. I'm just thinking about the hints to be looking for if/when the investigator dies later in the game or reveals himself for whatever reason.

It alsmost seems like a waste at this point to investigate steelers if m16 is mafia. We'll probably end up killing him either way as its not like the investigator can come out and tell us what he found. Plus I think the evidence against him would be enough that there would be more value to the town in checking on someone else.

I was about to say exactly the same thing. The suspicion on me is high enough right now that the investigator won't be able to persuade people not to vote for me if I'm innocent. And if m16a is innocent, then I'm not particularly suspicious anymore.
