Keeper advise

Postby Mohillian » Fri Jan 28, 2011 4:02 pm

Can you help me select my keepers for this coming season. I am in a 10 team keeper/dynasty league. We get to keep 11 this season and 12 next season with no restrictions. Last place team (not me) will get first pick of FA draft and it is not serpentine. I will be selecting in the 4th position. FYI, my strategy going in regarding RPs is not to keep them...I will either give up on SVS category or find them in the draft.

1. League type -H2H
2. League settings - 5x5
3. Choice to keep 11 of the following (I put in order as I would keep to this point...seeking advise):
1 ss H. Ramirez
2 2b R. Cano
3 sp J. Johnson
4 of M. Kemp
5 1b A. Gonzalez
6 sp M. Latos
7 of J. Bruce
8 of D. Brown
9 of A. Ethier
10 sp C. Carpenter
11 sp C. Billingsley
-------------------------Keep above?
12 sp J. Chacin
13 2b/3b G. Beckham
14 sp B. Anderson
15 3b P. Alvarez
16 3b/of J. Bautista
17 rp J. Broxton
18 rp M. Rivera

Would you make any changes? if so, what and why?

I will take Bautista over Brown. He might not repeat last year but he should have a good year.

plenty of naysayers but you just gotta keep Bautista, he's a top 30-40 pick this year. trade him early if you don't want him; you'll get value for him. Brown might not even have a starting job; he should last a couple rounds into the draft. Alvarez will be a popular player to grab this year at a weak position; not sure who you'd bump to add him

Good advise on trading him...which is what I will try to do...Im a big Dodger fan and may offer him + #1 pick or something for Kershaw...I will figure that out later.

Alvarez and Chacin are two guys I like a lot but my team is pretty loaded and just don't know who to drop.

Chacin would be easier to get back in the draft. Alvarez might be gone before your fourth pick. I would find a way to keep him, and not worry about Brown or Chacin. I would be trying to trade Carpenter and Jose Bautista for an upgrade.

I might be in the minority, but in the long run, you might want to keep Brett Anderson over Carpenter. Sure in 2011 it might look like a bad decision, but 2012 and further it won't. And he could outperform Carp this year if he stays healthy.

Keep:

Pedro Alvarez or Chris Carpenter

Pitchers I already have:
Latos
J. Johnson
C. Billingsley

Other option I have:
J. Bautista

I am considering not keeping Carp and keeping Pedro...somebody talk me out of this
