Bautista and the Jays lineup

Postby hot4tx » Fri Jan 28, 2011 12:31 pm

So how is the Jays lineup supposed to shake out this year. Will Bautista be playing mostly in LF or at 3B this season? What is the plan for Rivera? Starting LF or #4 OF and/or DH?

Fair question ... we'll probably need mweir to check in for the real skinny.

The current Yahoo! suggested depth chart has an outfield of Rivera-Rajai-Snider, with Lind at 1b and Bautista at 3b. It doesn't list backups at any of these positions, which is obviously suspect, though Encarnacion is displayed as the DH (!?).

Without any spring training to look at, I'd say that the Snider-Davis-Rivera outfield is probably what you'll see, with JB at 3B and Encarnation rolling out at DH most games. We'll what happens with Lawrie as the season progresses, but I don't think he's a factor to start.

At 34-30 the Jays are playing better than most expected. Yet they’re still stuck in the AL East, where they currently reside in fourth place. Their situation is nearly identical to last year, when they were 34-31 through 65 games. By the All-Star break they had fallen to 44-46 and were ready to deal. While this team could play above-.500 ball for a bit longer, their situation remains the same.

(last updated, TH 3/10/11)

Would be nice to see Aaron Hill slotted into the 2nd spot & Escobar bumped down toward the bottom... might see that happen relatively early this season.

CF Rajai Davis
SS Yunel Escobar
3B Jose Bautista
1B Adam Lind
RF Juan Rivera
2B Aaron Hill
DH Edwin Encarnacion
LF Travis Snider

Twittered from Wilner:

John Farrell says he's preferring Bautista3/Lind4 - Jose is better on the basepaths. Also indicated Snider should hit 6th vs. RH.
