Yahoo! Strategy Advice? WHIR

Postby KSig24 » Wed Jan 26, 2011 9:26 pm

Just wondering if anyone had any specific strategy that they found worked for them in Yahoo? I always put together a great team, but can never seem to win. Reason asking is because I noticed that Yahoo ranks their players a lot differently than that of other fantasy sites.

Yahoo rankings should not have any bearings on how you draft, unless follow them.

The site you host your league should be completely separate from how you plan for the season and your league.

Outside the Yahoo prerank feature, you should have your own rankings handy and draft from them. You can always sort the draft room by name, position, last years stats etc ...

Yahoo has a glitch that gives you a secret 7 game head start in H2H if you draft Joakim Soria in the second round.

Yahoo Genie doesn't know I know this so shhhhhhhhhhhhh :-o

one thing i remember from last year was Liriano being buried in the rankings. like 1100 or something crazy. dont knwo if it was a glitch or not....but if you knew it then you were rewarded

i know this tip really isnt only for yahoo....but find the guys that are buried in the site's rankings and jump on them. most people will just use the draft setup's rankings list to draft..bc its easier than doing your preranking....so most yahoo drafts will sort of go down the yahoo rankings

I agree with what BigKen said above, but this has some merit to it as well. If there is a player that I heavily value and he is buried in the Y! rankings for some reason it may change where/how I draft a little.

Regardless, using the free draft tools that will be available here (or creating your own) & using them to track your draft is much better option than using Y!'s interface to do so.

yup always look for those players that are undervalued/overvalued by the yahoo default rankings. however, i think they update the rankings throughout spring.

:-?

That's not true at all.
Tons of value can be had simply by finding where your opinion differentiates from the pre-ranks of whichever site you're draft on.

Now that doesn't mean that everyone is going to follow the pre-ranks and leave all the hidden gems for you, but it's absolutely a factor in where "some" players go.

whether it's yahoo or any place that ranks players, they are not all the same. best thing to do is come up with your own rankings based n what you think players will do.
you can use whatever stats you like to come up with your ratings, but fangraphs.com is a site good for the deeper stats that yahoo does not have.
