'Band of Brothers' inspiration dies at age 92

HERSHEY, Pa. – Maj. Richard "Dick" Winters, the man whose quiet leadership was chronicled in the World War II book and television miniseries "Band of Brothers," has died in central Pennsylvania.

Winters died Jan. 2, a family friend confirmed Monday. Winters was 92. He lived in Hershey but died in Palmyra, Pa.

In September 1944, Winters led 20 men in a successful attack on 200 German soldiers. He and his men later helped hold the Bastogne (bas-TOHN') area of Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.

The exploits of Winters and the other members of Easy Company were chronicled in the Stephen Ambrose book "Band of Brothers" and later the HBO miniseries of the same name. Winters also published a memoir in 2006 entitled "Beyond Band of Brothers."

Winters was buried in a private funeral. Arrangements for a public memorial service are pending.

I didn't see this either.
If he is anything like his character in the show he was an awesome individual. Sad to see him go.

RIP

Bummer! Ed Mauser just passed away too!

A brother and a hero dead at 94

Ed Mauser of Omaha, a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division’s “Band of Brothers’’ Army paratrooper company, died of cancer Friday. He was 94.

Mauser, a retired watch maker, served with the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment’s Easy Company in Europe during World War II.

The unit was made famous by the HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers,’’ based on the book of the same name by historian Stephen Ambrose. The story chronicled the company’s wartime experiences.

"I was no hero," Mauser said. "I was one of the guys. That's all."

I beg to differ. You will always be a hero in my book Ed.
Thanks. Thanks for everything.
May you truly rest in peace.
