But today as we know WAR means one thing. If you go by opinions in the Cafe and elsewhere on the internets WAR is the premier saberstat for determining fantasy value. As a long time fantasy manager since the days of drafting a rookie named Frank Thomas I am now looking at expanding my knowledge of saberstats. I am old school. I draft with gut feelings and my love for certain players. Back in the day I was a Michael Tucker apologist. A Doug Henry sycophant. A Joey Belle worshipper (Only I was able to call him Joey). Today, its Carl Crawford who I need every year. Its Justin Verlander who I always target as an ace and its Drew Storen who makes me drool for some reason
I am hoping to see why WAR is so valuable and hoping a discussion breaks out. Wins Above Replacement? Why?!?!?
My Friendliness bar...recently shrunk from 11.3 to 10mm long!!

I never think of WAR as a FANTASY stat. I think of it as a real world stat. Especially since WAR includes defensive metrics that we in fantasy don't care about. Here is a good article about WAR, which also references back to a bunch of work that is on fangraphs. http://saberlibrary.com/misc/war/

WAR is supposed to take a look at the full value of a player, so it includes defense. That is why it won't be of much use for fantasy sports.

This. By the way it's not a Bugs line, it's Daffy Duck.
No clue who said it first. I'm not a historian of classic comics.
