This was my first thought, too. Compared to what they asked from other teams, this is nothing.

Pretty excited about all of this. It's not often you can add an ace without moving any blue-chippers. It's kind of like when the Mets added Johan Santana for Carlos Gomez/Phil Humber/Deolis Guerra/Kevin Mulvey. I think Cain will be a solid big-leaguer...he's a quality defender at a premium position while having what should be at least an adequate bat. I had soured on Escobar and his poor approach at the plate, but again he's a quality defender at an up-the-middle position. I think Jeffress and Odorizzi are the key pieces in the deal. Odorizzi could be a #2/#3 SP soon enough and Jeffress could be closing out games.

That said, I'll take Greinke. Exciting rotation now, as good as any in the NL outside Philly and San Fran in my opinion. St. Louis will have good pitching too, but this puts us right there. Now that they've held onto Prince, the lineup will be good again too.

SP1 Gallardo
SP2 Grienke
SP3 Marcum
SP4 Wolf
SP5 Narveson/M. Rogers/Capuano?

1. Weeks 2B
2. Hart RF
3. Braun LF
4. Fielder 1B
5. McGehee 3B
6. Gomez/Dickerson CF
7. Lucroy C
8. Counsell/Cruz/hopefully not Betancourt? SS
9. Pitcher

Lineup dies off a bit after 5, but those top 5 are good enough to put runs on the board, and they have some pitching to help them out for once.

It might agree but it is wrong. Cain would have been the Brewers starting CF for years to come.

He isn't a star though, just a decent type of starter. A David DeJesus type of guy.

It's cute how every few years the Brewers make moves like they're actually a contender.

Ryan Braun .. wrote:“It says we’re going for it,” Braun said in a telephone interview I just did with him. “We’re all in. I don’t think anybody could ask for more. To say I’m thrilled is a significant understatement.” .. “I don’t think anybody could have expected anything like this, to get two pitchers like this, in one off-season,” said Braun. “We gave up a lot but we’ve all seen the value of quality starting pitching. When you acquire one of the best pitchers in baseball, you’ve done all you can do."

Pretty much what it looks like. Jeffrees is more likely to replace Soria than Greinke. This is a pretty bad package for KC from a talent standpoint, pretty much gave him away. This should continue the long line of trading aces for prospects who become useless.

At least they make moves to get studs to attempt to be a contender says a Royals fan. :-{

Glad to see my 2nd favorite team trying to make the moves (this and the Marcum deal) for another playoff appearance and chance to win before Fielder is gone ;-D

This puts them right in there for the on-paper favorites for the 4 NL playoff teams
