Bryce Harper's Value in a Dynasty League

Postby Lafferty Daniel » Fri Dec 17, 2010 1:55 pm

Hi - I'm thinking about trading Harper in a 20 team dynasty league to make a run at winning the league next season. (6x6 w/BB & Holds.)

My current roster:

Brian McCann
Ryan Howard
Brian Roberts
Neil Walker
Edwin Encarnacion
Troy Tulowitzki
Justin Upton
Grady Sizemore
Jason Kubel
Michael Brantley
Jonathan Sanchez
Jorge De La Rosa
Rick Porcello
Wade Davis
James McDonald
Jonathan Broxton
Scott Downs
Brandon Lyon
Kevin Gregg
Jonny Venters
Kenley Jansen
Michael Gonzalez
Sergio Santos
Jason Motte
Jason Frasor

Bryce Harper
Freddie Freeman
Dee Gordon
Ryan Kalish
Wilmer Flores
Jake McGee
Alex White
Alex Colome
Michael Taylor
Tyler Flowers
Chris Marrero

Do you think this would be enough to get Zimmerman & Halladay? As you can see, I could use an upgrade at 3B & a legit ace. The owner that I am proposing the trade to is rebuilding.

I send: Harper + Freeman + Porcello + Kalish + Neil Walker

I receive: Zimmerman + Halladay + 2nd Overall Pick in MiLB draft + Lyles

Thank you very much.

I'd make that deal, but then I hate waiting for the next big thing to impact my roster in a few yrs.

If you are ready to win now and can get studs for unproven talent then do it. Someday you might regret the trade but there is also a pretty good chance that you won't. Plus if you win a title or two over the next couple years, it won't even matter.

if the question is do you think this is enough than I say no; thats probably his best 2 players & Zimmerman is young himself. if the question is should you do it if the other owner would than I say yes, by all means. An impressive group of young talent you'd be trading, but thats the # 1 SP and an already top 25-28 pick 3rd basemen who isn't going to be 30 anytime soon. If I'm rebuilding, Zimm is my cornerstone & Halladay is the bait. I'd trade prospects all day long for proven top 50 guys; they'll make more prospects

I like this statement in regards to your situation. If the past few years have been shaky and now seems the time to strike, then you have to do it to say you did it. Otherwise, it'll always be a wait-and-see game. Harper might consistently help 2-3 years from now, so unless you're willing to wait that long while the other guys (McCann, Howard, Roberts) get older then the choice is practically made for you.

I think it's enough if the other guy wants big young names. You may have to send a current major leaguer that you aren't terribly in love with (Encarnacion or pitcher, etc) to give the other guy a more stat-proven commodity. However, if you can get those guys, as well as that pick, with what you have then I'd say do it. At least Zimmerman is a proven guy year and year out for you in the future.

I would do it. I am always thinking win now even in dynasty and keeper leagues. I think you might have to give up a little more to get what you want. But it is worth shopping and unprovern Bryce at this poing in his career especially if you can get proven studs for him.

please help

Thank you everyone for your help.

Just wondering if anyone is concerned with Halladay's workload the past few years?

Also, Zimmerman was injured at the end of last season. Anyone concerned about his health going forward?

Thanks again.

I wouldn't be concerned with the health of either Halladay or Zimmerman.

LOL but it's so true. We always put so much value on prospects, and so few actually hit it big. Think Wieters, Gordon, how many people reached for Borbon in last year's draft? If you can make that deal (if the other guy will agree), I'd do it in a heartbeat, and not look back.

It probably won't be enough but depending on who's in the league it might be, especially in a dynasty. Give it a shot; it makes your roster significantly better and gives you a solid shot a championship for the next few years.
