Yankees come to terms with Russell Martin NEW YORK -- The Yankees have agreed to terms on a contract with Russell Martin, multiple sources told MLB.com on Monday. Details of the deal were not immediately available, but it is expected to be announced at some point on Tuesday.
Martin was said to have been deciding between the Red Sox and Blue Jays.
Martin, 27, was deemed among the best catchers in the National League from 2007-08, when he was a back-to-back All-Star while compiling a .286 batting average, .380 on-base percentage and 32 homers for the Dodgers. But after a down year in 2009, Martin played 97 games in 2010 and then missed the rest of the season with a broken hip.
Now they are free to trade Miguel Montero to the somebody looking to take advantage of the Yankees desperate need for pitching.
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.
Russell Martin is going to play worse, not better. Switch from NL to AL and AL East pitching, for that matter. I doubt moving to a better ballpark will help much.

NL West is a pretty good pitching division, so the switch to the AL East in terms of pitching isn't a problem. The ballpark should help as well as having a better lineup around him. The key is his health. He is only 27, so he should be able to bounce back if healthy.
