Give it a couple years. Don't know if you're being facetious, but Toronto will compete in 2012. I would have liked to see them make a run for 2011 as well considering they wouldn't have needed to give up much. Bring in Manny for a one-year incentive laden deal as a DH and sign Putz to be the closer is all it would have taken, really. Maybe trade Drabek and somebody else for Greinke and get him signed long term, that's the only part that'd mortgage the future at all.
I don't think this helps the Orioles much at all though. .289 road wOBA is not encouraging from a player at a offensively productive position, and it's not like he's a wizard with the glove. Considering how often he strikes out and the likelihood of hitting below .200 next year, if he goes into any sort of HR slump, his confidence and the fans' support will be shot to hell fairly quickly. If they had lost Tillman in the deal it would have been disastrous.
