wow. I will say one thing: the Nats are quite possibly overpaying just so they can say they are "trying" and to make the "splash" signing to increase revenues. If this is the only way they can sign an FA, and it will open up doors later for other FA to want to go there, then it may be a good move. still bidding against themselves though...

If the Nats were smart, they would front-load this.

Eg: 25/25/25/25/9/9/8.

Paying him any more then $10mil when he's 39 = FAIL.

Projections for 2011 anyone?

Can he still remain in the top 50? Or is he more of a 75ish guy now? His value has certainly gone down, but by how much?

Hitting in the 3 or 4 spot in Washington, as opposed to the 5th spot in Philly shouldn't change his value a whole lot, he's still top 50 in my book.

Im so thankful he went out of the mix for Red Sox now as Theo had manlove for him. There is no way he is worth *pun intended* whatever big deal he wanted. He is not that far removed from being potentially flirting with a label as 4th OF/journeyman. Not saying he was exactly that or going there for sure but..and Sure he proved himself as a player the last few years but how much of it was that park and that lineup? Guess we will find out soon enough.

Big overpay of course for Nats since they felt they had to in order to bring a name in.. but I dont get why they didnt keep Dunn for basically half the years and money or frankly if youre going to spend this much, just spend a little more for Crawford who is younger and more proven. I cant imagine what they would ahve had to pay crawford but if youre going to through around crazy money give me him. Dunn scenario would ahve made a ton more sense though. Even if he does do well for a couple years this deal will be an albatross for the 2nd half, will be as bad as the vernon wells deal has been for Tor and Wells id say was at least a much better player at time of signing his deal.

Bad puns will be umbundant when referring to this situation, so we should all just get used to it. Jayson Werth is an outstanding COMPLIMENTARY piece to an already potent line-up. With this contract, he's gonna feel like he is the big dog on the team, and will put up .260 25/15 like clockwork every year he is in washington. If washington wanted to make a REAL splash, they should've gotten crawdaddy.
