I think it's a good gamble. Berkman is better than he was last year and the Cards could always use more pop in their lineup. I'm guessing he won't be around after this 1 year contract though, his defense will be BAD.

They are playing with fire having him in the OF everyday being in the Nl without the option to DH and sometimes sitting who you have @ 1B isnt an option.

The good part is the one year. If he somehow can stay fine out there, what a deal for them.
