Gonzalez to Boston?

Yeah its done. For prospects Casey Kelly and Anthony Rizzo (among other prospects). No major league talent going to the Pads.

The Red Sox and Padres have agreed to a deal that will send Adrian Gonzalez to Boston, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Olney says the players have been agreed to and Gonzalez needs only to pass a physical, which isn't a guarantee given that he's coming off shoulder surgery. Boston has also been granted a window to negotiate with A-Gone on a new contract. It's been previously reported that the Pads would receive a package of minor league prospects in the deal, but so far no names have been mentioned. Gonzalez will be a fantastic fit in Boston with his opposite field power. This means Adrian Beltre is no longer a possibility for the Sox, as Kevin Youkilis will move over to third base.

This would be huge for his value.

Don't like the haul they're giving up but if they're able to lock him up then I'm cool with it. Otherwise it's a massive backfire to give up that much for a guy who's only going to test FA after the season. Then they could have waited and just signed him next offseason for just money instead of losing the prospects, but understood that that opens the door for other teams to negotiate as well.

Just please be healthy and lock him up

They were given a window to work out an extension. It looks good right now, but these things can fall apart quickly too.

Some team actually bought into the Casey Kelly hype? I have been warning everyone for a while now, he really isn't that good. His 90 MPH FB just posted 5.31 ERA with terrible peripherals
