To me, zombies aren't a good enough villain in themselves to sustain a television series, though. This isn't some zombie flick. They need something else...some greater internal conflict among the groups of survivors. Have never rid the comics, so maybe that's coming.
I want to get invested in the characters, but they just aren't developed enough yet.

I haven't read the comics either, yeah some internal conflict would be nice I guess. Maybe that will happen when they address the Merle situation, I dunno. Or maybe when we find out where that stupid little girl went. I mean she's obviously not just hanging out in the woods somewhere, some other group had to have found her.
Have you, or anyone else, watched the "webisodes" yet? I see there are two of them on the Walking Dead website? It looks like there are 3 of them, each is a few minutes each. I think I'm gonna check em out later tonight.

from what i know about the comics a villain gets introduced...but it wont be this season for the TV show supposedly we will get a cool character from the comics this season though
Finally a good episode. It's almost like they heard my criticisms last week about the lack of a villain/antihero type and the lack of conflict among the survivors. As I said last week, the self-motivated Shane fits this role perfectly.
I don't know that Shane's actions last night automatically thrusts him into the category of villain/antihero. In fact, what he did could actually be viewed as a heroic act. He certainly didn't do what he did to save his own skin. If you remember, just a few moments before, he was ready to stop running and let the fat guy continue on, but the fat guy wouldn't continue on with out him. I think he came to the realization that they weren't both going to make it, and that the fat guy likely wouldn't make it alone anyway. So one of them had to be sacrificed. He did what he did so the vet could get the medical equipment to save the boy's life. He made a tough decision to save the boy. Had he not done what he did, all three likely would have died.
I dunno, that's my take. Maybe Shane will become a villain, but I didn't really view what he did last night as a villainous act.
