Keeper, question.... Here are the league details: 12-team, NL-only, 6X6 (ERA, WHIP, SV, HD, W-L, K; AVG, HR, RBI, R, D+T, SB) The rosters have a minimum 30 players, and a maximum of 34. This is a pretty deep league.
I'm deciding on my last keeper slot. I'm thinking it's among Nyjer Morgan ($11), Roger Bernadina ($3), Brandon Allen ($1), Tim Stauffer ($3), or Luke Gregerson ($5). Stauffer wasn't even on my radar until he began starting and continued to put up good numbers. I'm in a bind, and any help would be great.
Bernadina's my guy. he's worth the $3 in sb's alone. does the best holds guy go for more than $5? Keep both Bernadina & Gregerson & cut 1 of the SP? too many good choices at value prices. maybe I'm just a fan but Bernadina would make my final roster
The good thing about Gregerson & Meek is even if they don't close you use holds and they are about as good as anyone. The Pods are now considering letting Bell go, Gregerson might end up being a must keep. I like Meek to win the Pirates job. I was saying Bernadina might be worth the $3 in sb's alone, but he also has some power and is at the right age to show improvement. He had a great August then faded late; you have no OF listed and he wouldn't be a bad $3 keeper in a NL only. He's hit for average in the minors and is someone I wouldn't mind gambling on in a deep league.
I guess the inherent problem with my question is its timing.
Gregerson most certainly would be a keeper if he closes in 2011. Obviously, a few things have to fall his way for that to happen.
I like Allen, but I have to know that he's going to be a starter.
I like Bernadina, but he could fall to the back of the pack on this list.
Perhaps my question should be, "Of my planned keepers, is there anyone who shouldn't be there?" Maybe there's some debate on James McDonald, but I really like his upside at $3. I think, overall, I have some great keepers if only because they are so cheap. Neil Walker might not be a sexy pickup, but at $3, I could get major value out of him. The same could be said of all my pitchers, plus Ian Desmond and Gaby Sanchez.
Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. I hope the discussion can continue. This was my first season where I haven't finished in the money. I don't want to repeat that in 2011.
