Keeper League

Postby Mateo de Lorenzo » Fri Oct 29, 2010 1:34 am

Ok, so it may be a bit early but I wanted to start getting input on my keeper league potential. Below is a list of all of my players that I have the option to keep (or already have as a keeper) and the rounds I will lose in the 2011 draft.

I am allowed 7 keepers total to start the season. I can have less.

Current Players Not Under Contract that I hold rights to but are Free Agents. The number in parenthesis is the round i will lose a draft pick in.

1. Freddie Freeman, 1B (20)
2. James Loney, 1B (16)
3. Sean Rodriguez, 2B (20)
4. Jorge Cantu, 1B/3B (9)
5. Mike Aviles, SS (20)
6. Stephen Drew, SS (9)
7. Scott Rolen, 3B (20)
8. Chris Coughlan, OF (20)
9. Andre Ethier, OF (6)
10. Jon Jay, OF (20)
11. Jose Tabata (20)
12. Josh Beckett (4)
13. Jamie Garcia (20)
14. Travis Wood (20)
15. Jonathan Broxton (20)
16. Jholys Chacin (20)
17. Kenley Jansen (20)
18. Dexter Fowler (20)
19. Bryce Harper (20)
20. Jason Kubel (13)
21. Edwin Jackson (11)
22. Jeff Niemann (18)
23. Joe Nathan (23)

Current Keepers:

1. Ubaldo Jimenez (15) [FA after 2011]
2. Brett Anderson (11) [FA after 2012; will cost me an 8th round in '12]
3. Jayson Werth (14) [FA after 2011]

Minor Leaguer Keepers (Do not count towards my limit of keepers):

1. Jeremy Hellickson
2. Dee Gordon

So, what I am looking for input on is a ranking of possible keepers. Obviously, some will need further analysis like Joe Nathan, Jonathan Broxton, Bryce Harper and the other kids. But I figure never too early to start looking.

If people could help me rank these people in an overall list and let me know which ones you think have the best trade value.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

if your league uses the corner infielders position owners will like Freeman alot; they might anyway
Depending on how many teams in the league, Ethier could be a nice pick or a so-so one in the 6th
Nathan that late should be tradeable
Tabata & Garcia will draw some interest, not sure if so many players in the 20th hurts their value or not. maybe everyone has a handfull of 20's??

Oh good point. Yes CI is a position in my league. 12 teams roto league. As for so many in the 20th, if more then one is kept, then a 20th is lost, then a 19th and so on.

Thanks for the info. ANy others?

Not a lot I like to tell you the truth. I think Tabata in the 20th is good value. Ethier in the 6th is probably about what it would cost to get him so I might keep him just because you don't have a lot else to keep. Players like Broxton, Garcia and Wood are risky picks but at round 19ish one of them might be worth it but not sure which one I would take. Broxton struggled after being one of the best closers in the game. With a new manager maybe he finds himself again or maybe there was an injury but he also could find himself an 8th inning guy. Garcia and Wood both pitched a lot of innings and there is no way to know how they will pitch after that. They are prime candidates to spend some time on the DL. No way I keep Harper. He won't play next year, you saw how the Nationals kept Strasburg in the minors, no way they rush Harper.

I think I would keep 5 guys and just get the extra players through the draft.

Probably SeanRod over Harper if the Rays don't sign a first basemen this offseason and put Zobrist at first, which in turn makes Sean Rod the bonafide 2nd basemen next year.
