This year sucked. Fortunately, I have some good keepers headed into 2011 and I'm beginning to plan for them now. Our league setup creates some unique opportunities, so please take them into consideration. First off, we may keep between 5 and 10 players headed into next season, losing a pick in the remaining player draft for each keeper after 5. As such, that means in order to keep 10 players, a guy should be roughly considered a top 140 pick. Younger players and starting pitchers tend to be at a premium so consider that when thinking of a top 140 pick. Secondly, any player who has less than 200 ABs or 70 IP/ 20 APP both this season AND last is a free minor league keeper. They have to have been picked up on or before August 15, though, so at that deadline I stockpiled minors guys in hopes of dealing them in the offseason.
My questions are: 1) Who on my team are potential keepers? The big questions are for Geovanny Soto, Neil Walker, Ricky Nolasco, Scott Baker, and Carlos Pena. I think Jaime Garcia is a pretty definite keeper, but I know some guys on the board are down on him... anyone have any good reasons? I'd also love to keep Jordan Zimmermann since he could be an excellent long-term keeper, but is he a top 140 pick?
2) How do you like the team headed into next year? I'm very worried about not having a 3B and having to keep Youk at UTIL as well as not having a solid closer on board.
3) How would you rank my minors guys? Which 5 would you keep/ deal? Of course, it might make more sense to deal the best players as they are likely to return more, but after dealing Mike Stanton last year, I'm not sure how to play it.
Thanks, all, in advance for your help. Please leave a link and I will respond. ---------------------------------------------------- 6x6 weekly HtH 14 team roto keeper (bet. 5 and 10 keepers losing a draft pick for each after 5)
Offensive Categories: BA, OPS, RBI, HR, SB and Runs Scored.
Pitching Categories: W-L, S, ERA, K/IP, Quality Starts and WHIP ---------------------------------------------------- I'll break the players down into tiers as I see their value as:
Tier 1: Hanley Ramirez, Prince Fielder, Kevin Youkilis, Roy Halladay, Jon Lester Tier 2: Shin Soo Choo, Ian Kinsler Tier 3: Jaime Garcia, Ricky Nolasco, Geovanny Soto (I believe pitching is at a premium in this league, along with position scarcity. ) Tier 4: Jordan Zimmermann, Neil Walker, Travis Snider, Scott Baker Tier 5: Bobby Abreu, Jed Lowrie, Carlos Pena, Tier Upside: Could they be keepable if they get a closer's role? Hong Chih Kuo, Johnny Venters, Frank Francisco, Brandon League.
Free Minors Keepers as I currently rank them: Keepers (in order): Wil Myers, Zack Britton, Simon Castro, Lorenzo Cain, Lonnie Chisenhall Trade Bait (in order): Brandon Belt, John Lamb, Jason Kipnis, Aaron Hicks, Jaff Decker

I really like your 1st 2 tiers and think I'd just stop there. Garcia could be kept as well but I'm guessing you could do just as well in the 8th round as him. Soto had a good rebound year but coming off surgery...I just like the choices you'd get in those 2 rounds as well as those keepers
