Rockies 2011 Rotation: Strike Out City

Postby acsguitar » Tue Sep 28, 2010 3:50 pm

So I'm hoping for the following rotation next season here in Denver:

Ubaldo- 204 K's in 213 IP
Chacin- 131 K's in 132 IP (rookie this year)
Jorge De La Rosa- 112 K's in 114 IP
Esmil Rogers-58K's in 64 IP (Rookie this year)
Hammel- 140K's in 174 IP

Now this could only happen if

A: They resign Jorge (probably won't)
B: Let Rogers start. I expect them to ruin him like they did Morales by bouncing him from Short relief to long relief to starter to bullpen catcher to minor leaguer and back again.

BUT if they don't thats a ton of K's per 9 (and probably alot of Walks and Wild pitches)
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

Good point. Seems like the Rockies mgmt. is figuring out what type of pitcher can successfully pitch at El Humador.

I also think they should just leave Esmil in the rotation. BMorrow is another good example of how bouncing a young guy around can be detrimental (until this year, at least.)

Esmil has a 3.36 FIP and 3.72 xFIP. Let's hope that Tracy knows what that means instead of looking at his inflated ERA (.395 BABIP and 54% strand rate).

Let's face it though, the Rockies organization is in love with Cook and Francis for some dumb reason.

I don't think they realize what they have in Esmil Rogers. They should at least give him a fair shot at the rotation. Aaron Cook has middle relief written all over him. Francis at least has shown flashes of being more than a borderline 5th starter. I don't think there should be any question about Chacin being in the rotation, but crazier things have happened, such as dumping him to the bullpen in July, hot off a 12 K in 6 IP performance against the Angels and with an ERA below 4 and great peripherals.

That seems like a pretty good rotation. Just put Franics in if (when) they lose De La Rosa, and you've got Cook as your long relief/swingman....

Francis isn't coming back. No way. He was awful again last night.

But Rogers stuff is plain nasty and I'm getting pissed at the announcers for being like "he really needs to learn "A" or "A"" He really needs to be a starter and not bounced around
