Thoughts on My 2011 Squad? WHIR!

Postby chargerss24 » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:53 pm

Well, the season is drawing to a close. Looking ahead to 2011, I like what I have. I'm in a 12-team roto (standard stat + Holds/OBP) keeper league that applies auction values with a $26 cap. I've got a great offense returning (dependant on player values when they come out), but I have questions about who to keep pitching. My pitching was horrible this year (last in ERA (3.89), 10th in K's and WHIP: Allowed me to finish 5th overall and out of the money) so I hope to find ways to improve there. Any thoughts or comments are much appreciated! WHIR as always! ;-D

How many players are you allowed to keep?

You're ridiculously deep at OF, you could deal from there. Bernadina will be close to 20/20, probably good for 15/15 with little upside and 20/20 his cap. Still not enough for him to compete with the rest of your OF. Hosmer is your future stud 1B.

Your SP is good so RP must be more valuable in your league. Holds are a hard stat to predict and chase. You hate to do it but maybe consider punting holds and go after S, which are more predictable and available throughout the season. It's a thought at least.

Another SP wouldn't hurt, depending on the number of keepers you're allowed. Sell high on Beltre, include an attractive young OF (Rasmus) and seal the deal with a solid borderline (oxymoron?) guy like Bernadina. If someone needs offense that can get you a Gallardo/Liriano/Weaver type.

We're allowed to keep as many ACTIVE players as we can, so as long as I don't go over the $26 cap limit. Our prices don't come out until sometime in December and will change weekly until we lock them down the first week of February. So the price will determine what most of my team will look like. If I'm over the cap, I tend to move pitchers first to keep the bats.

Team looks solid. Looks like Grienke's down year and a lack of solid 5th starter killed you.

I understand your tendancy to keep bats over sp's...but considering how this seadon turned out you might want to be sure that you don't go the extreme with this strategy.

If I were you, I would do everything you can to keep Grienke, Price, Verlander and Latos. I think Grienke will rebound (probably not back yo last year's level....but still legit)...and those other guysshould put together a solid core for you.

Cruz and Bruce would be the guys i might consider as trade bait to further upgrade your pitching staff if you want to go that route. I wouldn't trade one of your stud hitters for a stud pitcher....but I would consider parting with Cruz or Bruce for a pitcher with lost's of upside. (don't get me wrong....I am not telling you to get rid of these guys....but I wouldn't be affraid to let them go for the right trade offer)

Re: hitters, the "untouchables" I see are Posey, Votto, Pedroia, Longoria, CarGo, and Upton. I don't think I am telling you anything you don't know here.

Otherwise, it does look like you are in good shape for next season. Hopefully the salary cap doesn't kill you.

Help with mine?
