REITSMA TO THE BRAVES

Postby KULCAT » Fri Mar 26, 2004 12:31 pm

The Braves needed a better holds guy with Almanza and Alfonseca having injury concerns(and well Smoltz himself being one) I still think Gribosky is THE guy for holds for the Braves but Reistma was great last year as the superutility pitcher. What do you guys think?
Also, does he take over Smotlz if he get hurt or do they go with Cunnane? Id say go with the relative experience of Reistma(12 saves last year)

Yeah I saw that, hopefully for Reitsma he can get a fresh start in Atlanta, glad to see the Reds got Bong as part of the deal. Maybe the Braves gave up on him but he has some upside left I hope. Sorry to see Chris leave though, maybe Todd Jones makes the Reds roster??
He should be good for holds in the bully, although I dont see him being the next in line after Smoltz.

Cox seems to have a lot of confidence in Alfonseca. I think that he'd be the man after Smoltz.

Bubba Nelson is pretty decent, too. He can be a good back of the rotation pitcher for the Reds, who need pitching badly. Probably a decent three for them.

Umm, I guess this gives Graves a little more job security, as I believe Wagner defaults to being the main set-up man, right, since Bong will primarily be the lefty set-up man? And I doubt any team would want to eat Graves' high contract...

I'd say this is good news for Wagner owners. If Graves implodes, there's no one in his way now.

The biggest thing about the trade to me is Jaret Wright going into the Braves rotation. Someone I'll be keeping an eye on. If Wright fails, it wouldn't surprise me if they give Reitsma a shot in the rotation.

Dammit, just when I thought Juan Cruz would have a bigger role since he got away from Chicago, this happens. The Braves add another SP/RP to take holds and spot starts away from Cruz.

Some say pitching coach Leo Mazzone is a great pitching coach and gets more out of his P's than anyone else so we may see a big improvement from Reitsma. Maybe even a return to SP for next season??????
