I am looking at how to improve my team for next year. Our league is straight keep of 7-10 players (regardless of round drafted) and the keepers reset in a few years. It is 6X6 with the standard categories plus OPS and holds. Currently my keepers are as follows:
Lock: 1B Pujols 3B Wright CI Howard SP Felix Hernandez OF J. Upton (no one else gives him value I do
Near lock, but movable: 2B Phillips 1B (so Util next year) Dunn SP Lincecum OF McCutchen
Movable, but keepable as well: SS Andrus SP Verlander
I won't keep, but others may value at that level: 2B K.Johnson SS A.Ramirez 1B A.LaRoche C G.Soto (lots of Cubs fans in this league)
One thought that I had as far as pursuing a trade would be to move for Pedroia. Do you think that Verlander is enough to move him for? Or should I include K.Johnson or A.Ramirez (the guy who has Pedroia traded Andrus to me earlier and is hurting for keeper depth)? Also would you move for Pedroia? I typically like to keep 8-9 hitters and 1-2 pitchers and feel that Verlander is the most movable piece b/c of FHernandez and Lincecum.
Also if you have any ideas who are other pieces that I could try to move Verlander for given my keeper makeup?
I think you could move Verlander for a guy like Pedroia who was hurt must of the year, but I think you'd be making a mistake. Verlander is the Tigs ace, and Hernandez/Lincecum/Verlander would have you well on your way as far as pitching goes for next year.
for me I take Pujols Wright Howard Felix JUp Phillips Lincecum McCutchen Andrus Verlander
and let Dunn walk... he's getting up there in years, had a career year and I think a repeat of this past season is unlikely...
As for Pedroia... he'll be great if healthy but you've already got a 2B that's pretty damn good. I'd offer up Dunn and another guy or two you're not gonna keep for Pedroia. If the guy takes it he'll get a lot of keeper help... otherwise you're in a fine position.

Bob
I would do exactly this...if you want you could keep Dunn and let Andrus go...if you want Dunn. But either way I agree you keep Linc, Felix, and Verlander and have yourself a great start to a staff
1B Pujols keep 3B Wright keep CI Howard keep SP Felix Hernandez keep OF J. Upton keep 2B Phillips keep - top 3-4 second baseman, you must keep him 1B Dunn keep - Dunn is the definition of consistent, he is a rock-solid round 7-8 value, and OPS adds to his value SP Lincecum keep OF McCutchen keep - I think he will do even better next year, he's so young SP Verlander keep - Verlander is an ace - Round 6-7 value definitely keep
Andrus is good for R and SB at SS, but you can easily get R and SB in your 11,12,13,14,15th picks...maybe you can even get Andrus in the 11th...also, OPS decreases his value
As for Pedroia, def go after him, him and his team should be much better next year...I like Dunn and Andrus for Pedroia, I think it's fair
with Phillips at 2B I would forgo Pedroia, plus with his injury history thus far he could be going doen quick, small players usually can't hold up that long
Keep Verlander Fo Sho, that would be a killer Trifecta Lincy, King Felix and Verlander, I would try to move Dunn for a good Catcher like Mauer (his power is inconsitent, but his AVG, OBP and OPS are tops) or maybe even McCann
