Which H2H team is stronger for the Playoffs?

Postby cs3 » Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:06 am

10 team H2H
1) how does the starting pitching for these 2 teams compare?
2) how do the lineups match up?
(i didnt include any closers because thats basically a crapshoot due to the way this league was set up)

If i make it through the semi's (and i hope to since i beat both guys i could face every time in the regular season, each by huge margins)
then these 2 rosters will face each other in the 2 week championship:

TEAM A
C Brian McCan
1B Miguel Cabrera
2B Rickie Weeks
3B Ryan Zimmerman
SS Stephen Drew
OF Ryan Braun, carl Crawford, Shin-Soo Choo
Util Matt Holliday
BN Josh Hamilton
BN José Reyes
SP
Clayton Kershaw
Justin Verlander
Matt Garza
Colby Lewis
Cole Hamels
Cliff Lee
Wandy Rodríguez

TEAM B
C Buster Posey
1B Paul Konerko
2B Omar Infante
3B Adrián Béltre
SS Hanley Ramírez
OF Carlos González, Andrés Torres, Curtis Granderson
Util Aubrey Huff
BN Plácido Polanco
BN Luke Scott
DL Ian Stewart, Jacoby Ellsbury
SP
Max Scherzer
Roy Halladay
Ubaldo Jiménez
Mat Latos
CC Sabathia
Tommy Hanson

I'd give the batting edge to Team A IF Cabrera is healthy and Josh Hamilton can come back. I'd give the pitching edge to Team B for sure.

Both of these teams are ridiculous and would certainly make for one exciting final. I'd agree with lavapen...Team A in hitting even if Hamilton doesn't make it back in time for this matchup. Team B might have the best collection of starting pitching I have ever seen. How'd that happen!?

it does look like a classic hitting vs pitching final if it shakes out that way. But you can't really look ahead to that, the 2nd week of the playoffs where the winners meet the bye teams is a scary thing for the regular season top teams. Most teams only play 6 games & Texas has 5; that semi-final week can be a very dangerous spot for the favorites

thats what i was thinking as well.
Team A drafted very well, and made 2 shrewd early trades for weeks and Lee, but was also the benefactor of 3 trades (for miggy, then braun, then hamilton) that may have been vetoed in many leagues.

team B probably picked way too much pitching way oo early in the draft, but claiming Konerko,, Torres, and Huff early on off waivers, then Scherzer later on, and then trading for Beltre, Latos and Ubaldo in late July/early August really made the team a legit contender.

Btw cats are

Hits, Runs, Avg, HR, RBI, SB
ERA, WHIP, K's, QS, Wins, SV

Just thought i would update this thread.

I am team B, "FtheDodgers" the team with loaded pitching.

I won my semifinal matchup rather easily 9-3 as expected.
Team B from the OP also destroyed his semi matchup and we are now in the middle of our 2 week championship right now.
He got off to a ridiculously hot start, my batshad the week of teh entire season, and he dominated both the offensive and pitching cats for the first week. After 4 days was basically out of contention for AVG, H, RBI, and R.

However HR and SB's remained very close so on sunday when rosters opened i dropped my dead weight (polanco, scott, and R.I.P. hanley and torres) to get guys that that could steal me bases and hit homeruns - stubbs, aviles, and r. davis...
the plan being iffff my pitching pulled its head out of its own ass, id have a great chance to win if i could win just 1 or 2 batting cats.
well after the first week i was still getting crushed and losing 9-2-1, only leading HR's (by 1) and Saves (by 1).

Then monday happened. My FA's came through getting me steals and a couple more HR's, and with an epic pitching performance by Doc, Ublado, Hansen, and Bucchy i managed to take a miraculous 7-5 lead...
combined they went 31.2 IP, 20K's, just 4ER, a WHIP of 0.63, a 1.14 ERA, 4 QS and 2 Wins.

My pitchers still have as many starts left on the schedule as my opponent, so i am in the drivers seat for now, but as we all know just one bad start can doom an entire team in H2H

With 5 days to go, the championship is playing out almost exactly as predicted:
his hitters absolutely mashing

and my pitchers dominating
