I'd say so over Jennings and Leake, but Niemann is tricky. He was pretty solid before that injury, and he's been terrible since so it's a tough call. Is his rotation spot guaranteed? I have to believe the Rays will try to find a spot for Hellickson in their rotation despite his troubles in the bullpen, but Davis might be the one who gets bumped.
It's worth saying that Hudson vastly improved since moving to the NL West, but I suppose if he stays there who cares?
He's got a solid fastball and a solid to plus change...when you got that as a foundation then you'll be good. Add in the fact he pitches in the NL West and he's golden. Is he sub 2ERA and sub 1WHIP good, no of course not, but he should be a solid James Shields type of guy though.
His minor league numbers are exactly what you want in a keeper...phenomenal k-rate, a lot less hits/IP and great WHIPs. Plus, he was 20-4 in his last 24 decisions.
Now he is on a team with a nice future and in the NL.
I am liking him a lot.
My Friendliness bar...recently shrunk from 11.3 to 10mm long!!

He was lights out in the minors. He had exactly what you look for in a pitcher and it translated well to the majors. Just like Hellickson, just like Latos. It's not really a secret. The questions should be about guys either without a long track record or without dominating K/BB rates. Like Jaime Garcia. If you ask me, he's a flash in the pan and will disappoint whoever pays for anything close to this year's numbers.
He's sure looking that way. I'm heading into my championship and he was available. I went with him and bailed on Gio Gonzalez based on his superior ratios and dominant run. It was also spite after Gio's meltdown.
Every year there are a couple of rookie pitchers who quietly owns September.
