Personally I'd rather have Butler. Butler makes excellent contact (88%), has a patient approach (10% BB rate), has huge power potential (according to pro scouts), and is only 24 years old. This is the type of player you want to hold onto in a keeper league. He has actually displayed more power in the majors (see .500+ SLG over the 2nd half of 09) so we KNOW he can do it at this level. Now it's just a matter of hitting more fly balls and combining all facets at the plate. Again, he's 24.....it's coming....soon.
There's nothing wrong with Phil Hughes, but he is a RH, FB pitcher in Yankee stadium with a solid, but unspectacular K/9.
Butler's potential and probability of reaching it vastly outweighs that of Phil Hughes - at least in my opinion.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
