Lakeland, FL (Sports Network) - Veteran pitcher Ugueth Urbina agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year contract with the Detroit Tigers to become their new closer.
In a related move, the team sent Matt Anderson to Triple-A Toledo to complete the changing of the guard at the back of the bullpen.
In the 2003 regular season, Urbina was 3-4 with a 2.81 ERA and 32 saves with Texas and Florida
Urbina, who finished the 2003 campaign as the closer for the world champion Florida Marlins, was arrested in the offseason for gun charges, which were eventually dropped.
In an nine-year career in the league, Urbina is 35-37 with a 3.32 ERA and 206 saves. Urbina also played for Boston and Montreal.
