I play in a 6x6, H 2 H daily transaction keeper league that counts OPS and holds, and which has individualized outfield positions (5 players can be kept). The owner of Hanley Ramirez, who is out of playoff contention, has indicated that he would accept this deal. Under our league rules, Hanley Ramirez is not keepable and Jason Heyward is keepable (and was to be one of my intended keepers for the 2011 season). I won't lose anything at RF for this season, since I've been playing Dunn there and putting Heyward on the bench for the last few weeks anyway. Is this a good deal for me?
Here is my current roster:
C: Buster Posey(C) 1B: Miguel Cabrera (1B) 2B: Aaron Hill (2B) 3B: Ryan Zimmerman (3B) SS: Alexei Ramirez(SS) LF: Carlos Lee (LF) CF: Adam Jones(CF) RF: Adam Dunn (1B, LF, RF) Jason Heyward (RF) Util: David Ortiz (1B) DL: Jason Bay Rafael Furcal
SP: Felix Hernandez, Tommy Hanson, Francisco Liriano, Chad Billingsley, Cole Hamels, Brandon Morrow, Jeremy Hellickson RP: Mariano Rivera, Joakim Soria, Leo Nunez, Hong-Chih Kuo, Sean Marshall
Thanks, guys!

One more item to consider - the other non-keepable players on my roster are Miguel Cabrera, Ryan Zimmerman, Jason Bay and Adam Dunn. So, the only batter I will have left with solid keeper potential is Buster Posey (but I have a number of pitchers who are keeper worthy).

I wouldn't do it, unless you could keep Hanley. There is no guarantee Hanley will outperform Alexi (using first names here since they have the same last) over the balance of the season. In fact Alexi has been hitting really well since the break. The marginal upgrade from Alexi to Hanley over a 6 week period is not worth giving up a potentially generational hitter in Heyward - at least not in a keeper league.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
^^^As much as I'd love hanley, the post above makes too much sense. Alexei has been hot, and with so little time left in the season, you're just as likely to break even, at the expense of a solid keeper, which is doubly problematic with little else to keep.

I agree with this completely. What you are giving up is multiple years of a great outfielder. What you are getting is less than 1.5 months of a player who might not outperform the player he'd be replacing. It just doesn't seem worth it, especially since you can't keep so many of your offensive players.
