Which Closer for Short and Long Term? WHIR

Postby bobnerns » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:33 pm

I'm in a H2H 5x5 redraft league. I need advice on which closer to pick up, both for the short term and for the long term.

Available pitchers:
Bobby Jenks
Drew Storen
Alfredo Simon
Mike Gonzalez
Brandon Lyon
Hong-Chih Kuo
Aaron Heilman
Michael Wuertz
Hisanori Takahashi
Joel Hanrahan

I know that pitchers like Kuo and Wuertz are only closing for the time being, but that's fine as I want the best closer for this week. I can easily drop someone if they lose their job and pick up another closer (we have 10 weekly acquisitions and daily lineup changes).

So could you list your top two or three for the short term (now until Sunday) and top two or three for the long term (next week through the end of the season).

Please leave your link.

Short term:
Brandon Lyon...He's pitched well most of the year, was a candidate to close preseason and was just edged out by Lindstrom who has been pretty bad. I say Lyon takes the job for the rest of the year.

Long term:
Drew Storen...He was groomed to be a closer for a long time coming, and that's why Washington drafted him.

I would probably go with Kuo for this week although he blew a save. Also, Lindstrom just hit the DL so Lyon should get some saves this week as well although Lopez actually closed out a game the other day for them. Wuertz might be good for the next week or so until Bailey gets back.

Long term, I would definitely go with Storen. The Nats have pretty much said all along Storen is their future closer.

A little help with mine please? viewtopic.php?t=418503
