Better Pitcher (Rest of Season)

Postby almostjay » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:15 pm

Hey guys, this is my first post here after years of lurking. I'm having a hard time making a decision about a waiver acquisition I am pondering:

Drop: Ricky Romero
Add: Edinson Volquez

I'd be making this move with the playoffs (H2H) in mind. My team has pretty much solidified a first round bye already. Volquez gets ARI, @HOU, @SD, MIL in weeks 24 and 25 whereas Romero gets @BOS, SEA, NYY, @MIN. Standard scoring except we use K/BB instead of WHIP, neither of these guys will really help me there I know.

Here's the rest of my pitching staff (I only carry one extra hitter so I can't drop one of them):

SP: Cliff Lee, Verlander, Strasburg, Nolasco, Slowey, Lilly
CL: Wilson, Soriano, Valverde

Thanks!

Thanks for the help on mine first off.

I would stick with Romero. I really like what Ricky has done and what hes still continuing to do. Volquez is an elite arm (Romero is definitely becoming one) but coming back from the injury he still has some control issues. Not to mention we haven't seen him pitch enough innings yet to see if there will be any lingering effects or not.

I'd just stick with Romero.

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...

Thanks guys, I've just been spooked by Romero's starts against the Yankees (I live in NYC so it's the only time I can see him pitch) and I'm not sure if I'll have the guts to play him during the championship week if I make it. He's been great though, hard to drop him straight up.

i like romero for this year for sure--volquez last 3 starts look good on paper, but hes walked almost as many as he strikes out, and his whip has been very high...all recipes for future train wreck starts. if his control improves a bit, id take a second look...that said, romero's a strong play against almost any team and i would not drop him.

ROMEROOOOO ... he is way better... I also live in NY and his last start vs the yankees was like 8 innings 2 hits so he might have figured them out. Also Volquez is no where near healthy
