Hey all, part of an 18-team h2h points based system that features 5 matchups a week. We keep 5 year to year with no restrictions. Have a mega trade proposed to me right now, with my team 1st in my division by 10+ games and 2nd overall in the league I don't want to make a move that will hurt my chances this year, so anyways on with it...
Scoring: Batters: 1B - Singles 1 point 2B - Doubles 2 points 3B - Triples 3 points BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point CS - Caught Stealing -1 point CYC - Hitting for the Cycle 10 points E - Errors -2 points HP - Hit by Pitch 1 point HR - Home Runs 4 points R - Runs 1 point RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point SB - Stolen Bases 1.5 points SF - Sacrifice Flies .5 points Pitching: BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -1 point BS - Blown Saves -4 points CG - Complete Games 7 points ER - Earned Runs -1 point INN - Innings 1 point K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point L - Losses -4 points NH - No-Hitters 20 points PG - Perfect Games 30 points PKO - Pick Offs 1 point S - Saves 7 points SO - Shutouts 10 points W - Wins 7 points
My Roster: C- Miguel Olivo 1B- Billy Butler 2B- Brian Roberts 3B- David Wright SS- Elvis Andrus OF- Carl Crawford OF- Alex Rios OF- Carlos Gonzalez UTIL- Ryan Zimmerman SP- Cliff Lee SP- John Danks SP- Scott Baker SP- CJ Wilson SP- Edinson Volquez RP- Jonathan Papelbon BN- Logan Morrison, Matt LaPorta, Drew Stubbs BN- Mike Minor, Wade Davis, Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Jordan Zimmerman
Trade Currently proposed to me:
So the guy with Kemp (had offered me Kemp and Montero for Zimmerman and Scott Baker) is still trying to get a 3B after I declined his first offer. This is his newest offer which is very intriguing to me again:
I GET: Matt Kemp, Adam Lind and Miguel Montero
I GIVE: David Wright, Alex Rios and Scott Baker
Really like Rios (was one of my picks that everyone laughed at on draft day) but he has cooled quite a bit in this league as of late (went from averaging 20+ points a week, to over the last 6 weeks averaging just over 10 pts a week). I love Wright as this is a keeper league, but just like Rios has been shaky over the last 7 weeks (posting 20+ only twice and recording 10 or less in 4 of those weeks). Again Baker is a dud to me, he will be moved to my bench next week anyways in favor of either Volquez or Hudson.
The side I'm getting: Lind has been coming on as of late (recording 17+ the last 4 weeks, including 30 last week) and would basically replace Zimmerman at my UTIL who I would slide to 3B filling the void that Wright would leave. Kemp would then slide into Rios' starting slot giving me an OF of Crawford, CarGo and Kemp for the rest of this year at least. Plus Montero would take over for the god awful (as of late) Olivo.
Thoughts? Should I do this deal?

I like all three of your outfielders better than Kemp. I also feel like you could get better value for such a high-end 3B considering you have 2 of the best already in an 18-team league. Catcher gets deeper by the day too, so don't make this move trying to get a catcher for next year, you can probably draft a good one next year. Your team is great as is.
Just want to point out Montero wouldn't be a keeper for me. My Keepers:
If I don't do the deal: David Wright Ryan Zimmerman Carl Crawford
Then 2 out of Carlos Gonzalez, Alex Rios, Cliff Lee or John Danks. My guess would be CarGo and Cliff Lee.
If I do the deal: David Wright Matt Kemp Carl Crawford CarGo Cliff Lee or Danks
So basically I'm looking at is Kemp going to return to form as the year ends or at least for next year? Because if he does then this is a surefire win for me. Thoughts? Basically would you rather: Keep Zimmerman and Rent Olivo for the rest of the year or Keep Kemp and Rent Montero for the rest of the year?
Well, I own Zimmerman this year and passed up Kemp at his ADP for Fielder because I think he is overrated. I tend to punt steals in my H2H league though (I don't think they correlate to the other roto categories very well) so I'm a little biased. How do Zimmerman's overall points from this year compare to Kemp's last year with your scoring system? You'd have an elite OF if you kept Cargo, Crawford and Kemp, but do you NEED an OF that good? Can you move Zimmerman for a high-end keeper 1B?
I really do like the Kemp deal. If there were 2 to 3 months left in the season, I'd strongly recommend you to pull the trigger. However, there about 6 weeks left and I'm not sure if Kemp will return to form in this time. You might actually stand to lose abit this season. Nevertheless, I do feel that Kemp will bounce back in the coming seasons.
In the end, its up to you. Based purely on talent, you're getting better half of the deal but to stay on the safe side, I would recommend you not to do the trade.

i'd stay put. i like kemp as a keeper, but not at all for the rest of this year. your lineup would take a hit if you inserted Kemp into it. your keepers are already excellent in my opinion, the gain you get if kept kemp is minimal to the loss you would take if traded zimmerman and were forced to play kemp this year.

I GIVE: David Wright, Alex Rios and Scott Baker

For the balance of the season which side has more value? Who knows - could go either way. I REALLY like Matt Kemp, but I think that the off season dating a pop star has hindered his performance this season. I don't think he came into ST in as good of shape and you can see that something's just not right in his SB success rate. Having said that he's still young, he's had to deal with all sorts of odd issues this year in LA, and I really think that he'll bounce back with a monster 2011 season.
David Wright's peripheral's really worry me. His BB% is on a 3 year decline as is his Contact rate. Furthermore his contact rate is far below an acceptable level for a player of his ilk. His good BA the last two years has been the result of an abnormally high BABIP not only in regard to everyone else in baseball, but more importantly relative to the levels he established prior to 2009. I thought last year would prove to be an aberration, but this season has proved otherwise. If you run his numbers with a normal David Wright BABIP he's more of a .250-.260 hitter the last two years.......
As far as your keeper list goes you're essentially just swapping out David Wright for Matt Kemp. That's a move I'd be willing to make, especially with Zimmerman there to cover 3B.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
Don't be another David Wright Man-Crusher. Citi Field has rendered him average. Sure a 20/20 thirdbaseman is nice to have but statistically he's the 4th best 3B in the National League. That being said, the deal you're looking at is trading a proven 3B in Wright and a proven OF in Rios for a lot of unmatched hype in Kemp (all of his numbers are less than Wrights), a .230 OF in Lind (again nowhere near the numbers of Rios), and a slightly above average catcher (for a slightly above average pitcher in Baker).
