Replacing Nelson Cruz (WHIR)

Postby Bjorne Greece » Mon Aug 16, 2010 5:26 pm

I need a bat, preferably an outfielder but any productive bat will do, to replace Nelson Cruz. If it's not an OF then I could at least put someone in the UTIL spot.
I don't know if all of these guys will keep doing what they are doing but thought I'd look for some opinions:

Chris Denorfia (in the last month has shown a speed/power mix but can he keep going?)
Pedro Alvarez (would use in UTIL spot for some power and RBI)
Chris Johnson (I know nothing about him other than he's hitting really well with AVG and power)
Rajai Davis (can't replace the HR/RBI of Cruz, but has speed that can give me big leads in steals)
Jose Tabada (good AVG and speed)

Leave a link and I'll get back at you

12 team league. Start: 1B, 2B, SS, C, 3B, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, 5 bench spots, 2 DL spots
SP: Verlander, Felix, Price, Latos, Liriano, Hanson, Cain
RP: Wilson, Nunez, Capps
C: Montero
1B: Konerko, Dunn (OF eligible also)
2B: Beckham
SS: Tulow, Reyes
3B: Wright
OF: Cruz (DL), Rios, Pierre, Ellsbury (DL), Pagan
UTIL: Whoever didn't get into the lineup at another spot

Ellsbury isn't on the DL anymore so you can use him for speed making Davis a cut.....leaving Johnson as the best option. Also, if Ryan Raburn is available in your league you might want to look at him he's in the middle of a tear right now and is eligible at second base.

Jacoby is back on the DL. He lives there.

I'd pick up Johnson too. I don't know much about him other than he tore things up in ST and is racking in the bigs.

johnson isn't supposed to hit .360, but he'll be the best of those all-around the rest of the year--if you need power, alvarez isn't a bad option either, hes had a very good last few weeks. johnson will probably give you .300-.320, few HR, some steals, and a surprising number of R/RBI for a guy that hits in the low-middle of the astros lineup.
