Replacing Ellsbury (WHIR)

Postby Bjorne Greece » Sun Aug 15, 2010 9:46 am

I've got to replace him with someone now that he's on the DL and I'm thinking over various options. I'm looking for opinions. I could:
1) Go for another outfielder like Pence, Pagan, Tabada or Rajai Davis.
2) Go for some infield (primarily 2B and 3B) depth. Brian Roberts, Ian Desmond and Pedro Alvarez are the 3 available I like the most. Roberts or Desmond could back up Beckham and Alvarez would primarily be used in the UTIL spot when I need power
3) Although my starting pitching is very good, I also have an urge to pick up someone like Brett Anderson, Jair Jurrjens or Edison Volquez. This is the least likely option for me - I probably need a bat more than another SP but I always love pitching.

Pence, Pagan and the 3 infielders (particularly Alvarez) are the most tempting to me.

Wow that's a very solid team. Personally I'm a fan of Pagan. Not only does he give you the speed that you were hoping for from Jacoby, he also gives you a little pop and hits for a good average at the top of the mets lineup. I know Alvarez is tempting right now while he's hot, but I think he evens out to be the .250-.260 hitter that he is. Pagan is on his way to a Victorino type season right now and has been consistent all year long. He's my pick.

Here's mine, please help: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=418367&p=3311968#p3311968

Yeah, I've had those thoughts about Pagan myself. Very solid player which makes him tempting - although he lacks the RBIs of Pence but has more speed

I, also, would chose Pagan. With all the pop in your lineup, you don't need the extra pop offered by Pence, so you could probably benefit most from the speed and runs offered by Pagan. Then, you could chose between him some power (Dunn or Konerko), depending on the stat category you need. Your team looks really good though.

Can't go wrong with a few of those guys.....awfully good WW in your league; wish mine looked like that. I'd grab pagan aswell if its ells your looking to replace......he'll very likely do better then ellsbury has anyway.
