In a H2H 12- team keeper league (one IF, one OF, one SP, one RP, one Vet, one Rookie). I'm in 6th place (6 make the playoffs and only 7 teams have a realistic shot of making them), back by 12.5 games. Trade deadline is tomorrow. Just got offered a deadline deal by a guy who needs some pitching -- Adrian Gonzalez, Dan Haren, Josh Beckett for David Price, Brett Anderson, and Jeremy Hellickson. I could use an offense upgrade at 1b/IF, but I have been leaning on my pitching staff down the stretch, because, even with an upgrade, my offense will not be a top 3. The guy offering me the trade is too smart for his own good, so I would appreciate some input here. I will respond to any links posted. My roster is as follows:
C - McCann 1B - D. Lee 2B - Weeks 3B - Beckham SS - H. Ramirez IF - Zobrist LF - R. Braun CF - C. Young RF - Vlad OF - Tabata Util - Beltran Bnch - Y. Escobar Bnch - Wigginton Bnch - Willingham
SP - Felix Hernandez SP - David Price SP - Ricky Romero SP (DL) - Jeff Niemann SP - Brett Anderson SP/RP - Jeremy Hellickson SP/RP - Sean Marshall SP - Aroldis Chapman RP - Brian Wilson RP - Brad Lidge RP - Brian Fuentes RP (DL) - Andrew Bailey
Do you think that the addition of Gonzalez makes up for losing such good young pitchers down the stretch? Or should I just sit tight, lean on pitching, and keep Hellickson as my RP and Chapman as my Rookie for next year?
I should also note that pitching goes: SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P Stat categories are: R, H, TB, HR, RBI, BB, SB, TB... and for pitching: W, L, S, H, K, WHIP, ERA
That's a tempting offer. Since you can only keep 1 SP, and you already have Felix, then dealing Price/Hellickson/Anderson isn't that big deal. especially if you're getting back Haren and a renewed Beckett. The thing is, you won't be keeping Adrian either with Hanley as your IF keeper. So this deal really comes down to whether or not it makes you better this season. Personally I think the downgrade in pitching isn't quite worth the upgrade from Lee to Gonzalez. I'd stick with what you have.
As noted above, none of these guys will factor into your keepers... I don't have H2H experience, so its tough for me to say which would help you more, the better arms or agonz at first. Beckett hasn't looked so 'renewed' - I have him, and right now he's more hindrance then help. I do like agonz at first over lee, but lee's been good lately, and if he keeps it up, he'll probably be very close in value to agonz from here on out. Guess I'd pass, but it is kinda close.
I would do it also. I think A Gonz is a huge upgrade at first base, and will add a lethal bat to your offense. Losing the two youngsters hurts, but you have to give to get. I still think Beckett turns it on down the stretch, and I believe Haren cant get much worse, so Id take the deal, and gamble on the two normally good pitchers having off years.
This deal hurts you long term, but if youre going for it, this deal is good for you.
I wouldn't do this deal. I think in H2H comp. Price is much more valuable to you than Gonz. Also I don't think Beckett will be much help and Haran wont do as well as Price down the stretch. As long as you make the play offs its just a matter of winning each week after that. Keep Price. On a week to week basis Price has more affect on what happens to your pitching than Gonz does to your hitting. Just my thoughts.
Hey man, thanks for the help with mine. I would do this deal, but see if he will throw in someone besides Beckett. The guy is totally overrated and is not an ace pitcher as some might suggest. However you could really use Gonzo and Haren is nice.
