It's a Keeper League......10-teams, 5x5 roto.....we keep 10 players each (no restrictions).
I am currently in 3rd place......4th place is breathing downb my neck.....2nd place is within reach.....1st place would likely take a hail-mary.
Here is my team:
c: M. Montero
1b: Paul Konerko
2b: Brandon Philips
3b: A. Rod
ss: Troy Tulowitzki
of: Carl Crawford
of: Josh Hamilton
of: Justin Upton
ut: Jose Bautista
b: G. Beckham (finally starting to hit)
b: C. Granderson
b: Austin Jackson
b: Brett Gardner
b: Derrek Lee
sp: Tim Lincicum
sp: Yovani Gallardo
sp: Colby Lewis
sp: Matt Garza
sp: Jeff Neimann (dl)
rp: J. Soria
rp: J. Valverde
rp: R. Soriano
rp: Chris Perez
b: Matt Lindstrom
b: Alfredo Simon
b: Michael Gonzalez
Notes:
a) I know I'm overloaded with closers. I just traded K. Morales (it is a keeper league) for extra closers hoping I can trade 2 or 3 in order to upfrade the rest of the team. We'll see if my gamble pays off.
b) I have about 300 innings left before i reach the league max. I figure the staff I have right now will give me approx that number....so if i add much pitching, I will need to offset that by dropping a pitcher and/or start playing the match-up game (aka russian rouletter)
Now, here are the best players available on the waiver wire:
of: Mike Stanton (yeah...still available in a keeper league...but I am looking short-term)
of: coco Crisp (sb's only, really....i cant gain any pt's in sb's, but I can lose a bunch)
of: Nick Markakis (an old stand-by)
of: Jose Tabata (cbs sportsline loves this dude)
c: Mike Napoli (I like Montero better....am I nuts?)
1/of: Garret Jones (in a slump....but another old stand-by)
sp: Jeremy Hellickson (another cbs fave)
sp: Ted Lilly (I am a big fan now that he is in l.a.)
sp: Brian Duensing (cbs is a fan of this guy, too)
sp: Barry Zito (having a suprisingly solid...and consistent....season)
sp: Trevor Cahill (you guessed it, CBS)
Finally. here is my actual question:
Are there any moves i absolutely have to make?
At this point of the season, I always get very biased in favor of the players that have been on my roster for the majority of the season. Are there any players on the waiver wire that i absolutely have to pick up? Are there any players on my team that i absolutely have to drop?
(Obviously, I will drop Simon, lindstrom and/or mike gonzalez IF I dont manage to trade some of the better closers before the trade deadine....but who do I drop)
Thanks in advance......of course, WHIR
