Let's be clear: Wright is a far better ballplayer than Jose Bautista, who's having a career year. Wright is a legitimate 1st or 2nd round pick, and while I am concerned about his increasing K rate, he is still an elite fantasy player with a ceiling of .320-30-30 seasons.
Arencibia, while a rookie and unpredictable, probably has the ceiling of a Mike Napoli-type hitter -- lots of K's, few walks, lots of homers. He could be .250-20 HR-60 RBI and a useful fantasy option next season.
I'm not as concerned about keepers as I am about the remainder of this year. I'm in first place, and have a very good shot at winning the league now. Sure, I'll keep keepers in mind, but, they're not of the utmost importance. Having said that, I like my side, too; I think I'm going to do it. Thanks for the advice guys.
honestly, one of my strongest opinions regarding fantasy baseball is the importance of the 5 category player. i never own the Rajai Davis's of the baseball world, and instead stock up on players with similar, somtimes even less, overall fantasy value, so that i my team is as well-rounded as possible.
i've owned Wright for 3 seasons in a row now, and I couldn't be happier. he, in my opinion, is one of the most valuable fantasy producers there is.
plus, Posada is as old as old gets, he'll rarely see DH opportunities, and i'm not sold on Bautista being an every year producer. he'll be next year's Nate McLouth. Minor probably couldn't be kept, but for Wright, as a keeper, this is a steal.
A gets David Wright, J.P. Arenciba, and Mike Minor B gets Jose Bautista, Jorge Posada, and Clayton Richard
Easily the side A of the trade.
Wright is in his prime, plays a premium position and you have no reason to think he won't be productive for years to come. I'd rather have the 'younger' Posada in JP and Minor obviously over Clayton.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
