Does this trade seem fair? Votto related

Postby coyotesjr97 » Sun Aug 08, 2010 1:37 pm

Ok..so this trade was accepted in my league between two managers. One seems to be a first year manager, the person giving up Votto. Ok so here goes.

Team A gets:
David Ortiz
Stephen Drew
Jair Jurrjens
Bobby Jenks

Team B:
Joey Votto
Madison Bumgarner

Team A has no shortstop and clearly needs one, but Stephen Drew could do better. Jenks is a struggling closer at the moment and Jurrjens is near dead in the water this year. Votto for Ortiz is what it feels this trade boils down to in the end, but....Votto is clearly the better of the two. Team A also has Konerko he doesn't even need another 1b. I'm the commish of this league and just not sure how I feel about this trade. Thoughts? I can provide rosters if you wish. Also these are two teams on the cusp of the playoffs with Team B (team getting Votto) having a closer chance of making it.

Its ok, I mean Ortiz is not chopped liver if he has 1b elgibility in your league. I'd have to let this one through.

you can't veto it. SSs are near impossible to come by this year, so Stephen Drew is actually not terrible.

Both are good points I suppose. Nobody in the league has said anything so...I probably wouldn't have vetoed anyway, but just wanted to see what others thought. Thanks guys.

This trade is OK as it appears both teams tried to get better and address needs. They don't have to be dead even trades to pass judgement and different rosters will have different needs.

That is true, but...the team getting Votto also has Adrian Gonzalez and Albert at 1st..so from that stand point, I don't feel it makes sense at all...
