Jaime Garcia -Time to Cut? WHIR

Postby hmfc1874 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 3:39 am

8 team, 5x5 Roto league
Starters are:
Wainwright, Greinke, Hanson, Nolasco and Garcia.
I don't need too many innings - I'm on track to be about 70 over the cap by the end of the year.

Is it time to cut Jaime Garcia? He looked pretty awful against the Astros, and he's only had one really good start in the last five.

Free agent possibilities would be would be Cahill, Marcum, Padilla, Floyd or Shields.

Edit: Top priority from a new pitcher would be low ERA, preferably with Ks. Wins are less important.

Cut Padilla if you think Garcia's arm isnt beginning to get rook wear and tear, but if you agree with me its not a bad move. By the way Spans outscored Kemp this yr in my league by a considerable amount. THanks tho

I guess you're asking if you should cut Garcia and pick up one of the SPs you mentioned?

I don't think it's a bad idea to drop Garcia. Maybe he'll be fine the rest of the year, but I don't think you'll lose much if you cut him.

If you want decent ERA and lots of Ks, looks like Shields is your man. His ERA has been blah for the year, but he's got it to mid-3s over the last month and gets about one K/9 innings.

Since you're high on innings, you might want to grab a high K-rate/low ERA reliever - score some bonus Ks and drop the ERA without using too many innings...

Yes. I'd pick up Floyd right now since ERA and Ks are your priorities, but keep an eye on Shields and Cahill and don't be afraid to make a swap.

Help with mine? Thanks.

I would think hard about Shields. I would def think about moving Garcia though, I have him in one league and am currently trying to trade him.
Thats something else you could try. Maybe someone in your league will want him?

Over the past month, he hasn't been too great, I cut him in one of my leagues because he really wasn't hurting me too bad, but he really wasn't helping neither. I'd probably go after Shields though...and thanks for your help.

I'm not really liking Shields much, as of right now.
